New corn, a coupe questions

Hey so after a bunch of research i picked up my first corn snake. Right now he is just in a 5 gal. tank with a lid that has a built in little light. I have a heat mat under the tank that covers about 1/3 of the floor, and i leave the light on during the day. I am planning on buying him a larger tank in the very near future. My main question was how can i tell how old my corn snake is? he shed last night and his shed is 22 inches long, i do know it stretches from he shed but it is the best measurement i can get right now. Ive tried the whole string thing, but its kind of hard to do by myself. So if a snake shed is 22 inches long and his actual girth is about an inch how old would you say he was? also right now i am feeding him one mouse every Sunday, i believe it is a fuzzy? (eyes have not opened yet, doesn't run around) is this enough for him right now?

Thanks for your time

There's no way to tell how old he is. He was most likely hatched in 2008, probably in the late spring/early summer.

If he's able to keep down the mouse, it is most likely the appropriate size. The ideal size is approximately 1 1/2 times the girth of the snake. If it looks too big, it probably is. For the age/size of the snake, going by the general rule of thumb that the shed can stretch up to 25%, your snake is approximately 16.5 inches long. I agree with Nanci that it's probably an '08 from late spring/early summer.
