Hi all. I am researching corn snakes and possibly will be getting my first snake.

I am 29 and live in Flagstaff, AZ. I currently have 2 dogs and 3 ferrets and 1 husband.

I got interested in snakes after I started feeding my ferrets a completely raw diet. It helped me get over my squeamishness in feeding frozen/thawed rodents. I had always thought snakes were fascinating creatures, but until recently I never thought I could deal with feeding them mice (since I have had various rodents in the past as pets).

I have several friends with corns and that is how I decided that if I get a snake, it'll be a corn. Right now husband doesn't want any more life forms but hopefully he will allow a snake. I mean really, corn snakes HAVE to be better behaved than my two brat dogs. :)
 
Hello and welcome! Yes, snakes have to be one of the best balance between lowest maintenance and most interaction of the caged pets out there.

I love snakes- they are low-maintenance and adorable.
When you want to handle them, they are there. When you leave them alone for a week, they are alright.

Not to mention all the different corn snake morphs!!

What kind of corn do you want to get?
 
Naagas, I'm still researching the different morphs. At this point, I just want to find reputable breeders in Arizona. I'm in Northern AZ so Phoenix is about as far south as I am willing to drive. Would love to find reptile shows.

So far I think my favorite varieties are the charcoal, ultramel, classic, and ghost morphs.
 
Welcome to the site :) I'm new too and will be getting my first snake (a snow corn) hopefully be the end of this month. I finally decided I wanted a snake after going back and forth between geckos and corns. Haha. I finally decided geckos didn't do much.
 
By the way, meant to say there are a lot of corn breeders in Arizona as far as I know. You'll have easy time finding a good one :)
 
Welcome! It's great to see other raw-feeding ferret owners! (I have private bred ferrets that were raised to recognize raw/whole prey as food.) Mine are not strictly raw at this point, but they get supplemented raw & whole prey.
My dogs get supplemented raw as well.

Are there any expos in your area? That's a good way to find snakes, some breeders will travel to expos to sell their snakes.
 
It's always good to have more AZ folks around here! I grew up in Mesa and have family in Payson. I'm sure there are some good breeders in AZ, but not many of them are on the forum. I'll see if I can dig some up...
 
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Snakes. Snakes are, IMO, the BEST pet EVER. I absolutely LOVE all of mine. And I think it`s awesome that you`re learning before buying. Can`t wait to see your first snake.
