Not lookin good for little Plissken

Nythain, I just went over Scarlett's weights when feeding, she went through a period for the first two months I got her that she never gained more than two grams. She stayed between 22 and 24 for two months. Last month she started picking up and is now 40g, not overweight or "pleasingly plump", but healthy. It may have just been the season, give Plissken some time, I was worried too but I know I was doing right by her, she just needed to settle in and do her growing at her own pace.

I am sure there are many snakes that just take their own time in their growth spurts. After reading Justine's weights, I knew that Scarlett was behind in her size, but I have faith that she is just starting to come into her own. Plissken will catch up in his own time, try brownies and buttered popcorn. That always seems to plump me up!

Oh no, I'm so sorry!!! *hugs* I too was hoping this was just a slow snakey. I wonder what the problem might have been.

My condolences. :(

Nythain, I'm so sorry you lost your little Plissken. You have been a valuable contributor to this forum and have given a lot of great advice to those just starting out with corn snakes. It is obvious that you have done a lot of research in the care of these beautiful creatures.

I hope that when you are ready you will get another corn snake. While some fail to thrive, another corn snake would be lucky to find itself under your care.

Casey

Oh no! :( I am so sorry to hear that. I too was hoping that he was just a slow starter, so sorry for your loss.

Hopefully me and the wife can find one we fancy at the next reptile show in a couple months. So far I've been consoling myself with the fact that sometimes these things just *happen*. Captive bred or not, snakes are still "wild" creatures and sometimes, for whatever reasons, they just don't make it in captivity. I'll always have a Plissken shaped hole in my heart, but I still love snakes as pets so hopefully we can find one a little older and heartier.

Thanks for the kind words everyone... Truly is an amazing community here.

So sorry for your loss :(

You are not alone. My first snake was so small and she never ate very well, then she just passed away. Once I was ready I got a new corn snake. He is clearly stronger and healthier and has been doing so well. Sometime they just don't make it as heart breaking as it it :(

Nythain,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm always amazed at how close of a bond we form with these little guys.
I was following this thread and after not hearing from you was hoping for the best. I know how close you were to Plisken, I've lost youngsters also and know how you feel and the only advice I can give you is not to give up, try again.

Best of luck to you.

oh my!

I'm soo sorry to hear that as well!
any snake would be lucky to have you..

sending out my thoughts and love!
