Oh, Craigslist...

Oh, this poor gecko is so skinny! http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pet/4416730513.html

"I have a tokay gecko not sure of sex for sale or trade. Does not come with a habit just the gecko. Willing to trade but only for a desert dwelling animal no brearded dragons cause I already have 2. Just make a reasonable offer. "

(I emailed for a better picture to make sure it wasn't just the angle... This is what I got back.)

Oh no poor poor baby! ): I wish I could get all of these little guys and nurse them back to health and re-home them to real loving owners!

Me, too! I would be in sooo much trouble if I had more space and money. Alas, this one is "no longer available," so I was unable to save him. :( I just hope whoever DID get him can recognize his condition and do something about it. If not, maybe they'll get sick of the tokay attitude and put him back on Craigslist in a couple weeks for me to sweep up then. Sigh...

I actually have 6 rescue cases I'm working with right now. 3 angry Alligator lizards (one or two are finally almost ready to find new homes!!) and 3 angry geckos. It's work, but I love them. And watching those poor scrawny geckos slowly put on real weight? Totally worth it.

Same. I would LOVE to take in all the poor babies I find for sale online. I have to sit on my hands occasionally to stop myself from emailing some of these people to either give them crap or tell them where to deliver it to lol. *sigh* If only I had the funds and my own home hahah

That's awesome that you are doing so many rescues! I live in a small state so we don't get too many reptiles on craigslist, but a lot of those that do get posted are not in very good shape. And then people usually want some ridiculously high adoption fee for their sick and skinny animals. It just makes me sick ): if I had unlimited funds and space I would go get every single one of them.

The other day I went into our locally owned pet store and they do not take good care of their reptiles. All of the bearded dragons were GRAY and had loose flaps of skin hanging off their bones. I wasn't sure if some of them were even alive. They usually have one or two dead leos in there too. They had a tiny crested gecko with floppy tail syndrome and all of the snakes were dehydrated with wrinkly skin and stuck sheds. I almost started crying in the middle of the store ):

Here's another one that's kind of "WTF?" 2 corn snakes staring down a very large, very not-dead-looking rat.

"selling my 2 corn snakes only 100 bucks"

An acquaintance of mine got ahold of this guy for better pics... The snakes are, surprisingly, in good shape. No injuries... So no idea what the hell the humongous rat in the picture is about! But check out that GORGEOUS Bloodred. (At least, I think it's a Bloodred...)

That's crazy! I think if you look closely in the photo there's a dead mouse sitting on the substrate next to the rat. The only thing I can think of is that they used the live rat to stimulate the corns to feed and then fed them the mouse?

Either way it's totally unethical for both of the snakes and the rat. If one of those corns struck and latched onto the rat the snake would likely be in huge trouble...

Some people just confuse me...

Same here. The acquaintance posted his text conversation with the guy, while he was talking to him about pricing (until his wife said hell no to another snake, ha). The seller sounds... Just... Not smart, in general. Or really easily confused...

Well, when you are selling "cron" snakes, life itself is pretty confusing!

And is that sand that the snakes are on?

This thread has made me head desk more than any other on the Internet, I believe.

I'm sorry I couldn't help it, I texted her. I usually don't do that, but since her ball is stressed over it, I told her to separate them immediately.

I'll let you know if she replies!

Idiots don't reply except to give a stupid answer to WHY they would do something that insane!!

She actually DID respond, she found out AFTER she got the corn that she shouldn't cohab them but has no place for another viv which is why she was selling the corn.

Sigh. It is called RESEARCH, people. These are living, breathing, feeling creatures that you are getting on a whim.

Start with a pet rock and work your way up from there.
