Palmetto Reservations

Does anyone know how the $4K USD asking price was determined? Is that what unique balls and hoggies go for?

Well, often, historically, before the economy/market went to hell, new combination corn morphs have gone for $2000 the first year offered. This is a whole new gene. I think it's a fair price.

New Boas and Ball pythons go for very high prices- and maintain them better than corns do.
I can understand the price for Beepers since they take a good while to reproduce... Boas too... but I have to say that from a buyer's point of view, Don's tactic seems excellent- he really assures a lasting value for his customers... something which many do not do.
Sure, it means that not everyone will have the new morph within a year, but I really don't think that that's the best way to go about things.

LOL! Hoggies and Balls are much more expensive! Some Balls go for $60,000 (Banana males), and some Hoggies are close to $10,000 (Toffee Belly Anaconda). A 4K Ball Python really isn't much.

Oh I see. I like hoggies but I woundn't pay $6 for a ball little alone $60,000 :)

I have considered grabbing up some Hognose and Ball Python stuff to breed. You will always make you investment back when they breed Hogs and Balls. If you don't like those numbers don't even ask about Rainbow Boa morphs!

A fair market price is whatever a willing buyer and a willing seller are able to agree upon. Historically, it has often been much higher for boids than colubrids. I seem to remember some new ball python morphs going for $50K - $100K - or more. Of course, the market - and the whole economy - have changed for the worse since those days!

With a new morph, there is no way to know ahead of time what a willing buyer will pay for it. BUT - if you overestimate, it is easy to negotiate a lower price. But if you under estimate, you certainly can't RAISE the price later. With a first time morph, the breeder has to depend on his experience and knowledge of the market to make his best guess. The best price will be one that is not so high that all bidders are scared away and won't even negotiate, but not so low that it is immediately snapped up. If that happens, you know you underestimated the market. At least, that is my opinion based on my own experience.

Yeah Kathy, that makes sense.

Oh, I read this on UPS's website.

Any package containing a live animal shall be considered a perishable commodity and will be accepted for transportation solely at the shipper´s risk for any damage or loss arising from the perishable nature of the item. UPS shall not be liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damages

I think I'd be pretty nervous shipping a baby snake of that value considering the current weather conditions across the US.

The thing I worry about with the Corn market is that the animals loose value so fast that once people besides Don begin making Palmettos, they will low ball the market. With other animals people aren't so gung ho to slash prices. That's one of the reasons I got out of the corns, I can't make my money back and I want this as a business. Sure I kept my favorite animals, but I got into an animal that holds it's value better than colubrids.

they will probably ship them Delta dash :idea:

That not likely. I have seen multiple 4K plus shipments go out at work and we never use Delta unless they animals(s) won't fit in our giant FedEx boxes. Delta is a lot of work and a lot more can go wrong. FedEx is the way to go. I sent out a box with around a 1K worth of animals I produced this season and I felt confident with it. They got their safe and sound!

I think I'd be making a road trip!! Or more likely, waiting till shipping temps weren't an issue. I had a snake shipped to me last fall that at the time was the only one of his morph in existence. Why do you think his name is Heart Attack? Fed Ex got him here safe and sound, though. But it was a stressful night waiting, on both ends! (I think I might have even dropped by the FedEx hub the afternoon before, just to make sure my ladies were watching out for him!!)

Ah, to be wealthy! Those Palmettos are even more beautiful than the Tesseras, imho, and I really didn't think that was possible! Maybe some year. Until then, I'll just enjoy the photos of the people who DO buy them. It'll be worth the wait :).

I would sell my internal organs in order to have a Palmetto, but then I would be dead, and wouldn't be able to enjoy it....
