My money is on that they have NO idea what they have and were afraid someone would call them out on it if they claimed it was an Opal.

Are they from New Jersey by any chance? In New Jersey, it is only legal to sell certain morphs, most of which are amel or amel combines. "Pearl" is one such morph on the list. So they are probably sticking to the old name of pearl for that reason.
I know right? At least it is better than my native state of GA, where they are ALL illegal. Unlike in GA, corn snakes are considered endangered within the state of NJ. So I guess they reason that albino type morphs are very unlikely to thrive and contaminate the native population if introduced into the wild. But yeah, it really doesn't make sense to ban ANY morph.
