Pics of my 2015 clutch! Kamalah and Keagan's first babies

LauRuffian

Perpetual Newbie
This year was a lesson in "things that can go wrong," but despite losing about half the eggs to incomplete shells, drying out to improper humidity, and who knows what else, I still have 8 health hatchlings and a pippie out of the deal. :) Four of the babies are already spoken for, too...that's a nice bonus.

I looked forward to the clutch all year, and though I didn't get the lavender stripe or hypo lavender stripe I was hoping for, we have some nice babies. My boys are super-mega-excited.

First of all, here is mommy Kamalah. She's a lavender Aztec het hypo het stripe:

And, here is daddy Keagan, a hypo vanishing stripe het lavender:

Now, they're cute and all, but you came here to see BABIES! So, here we go:
First of all is our overachiever "Turtle," a lovely normal (much redder than I got from my other breeding projects) who pipped on day 59 and hatched completely within 6 hours.

A lovely lavender baby my 5yro nicknamed Patrick Star, heh:

One of our two hypos--my 9yro gave it the modest nickname "Greatness"

I think this guy--"Doctor Bob," heh heh--is a hypo vanishing stripe. Shedding will tell us more:

Our other hypo, "Coby":

Another stripe--I think also possibly a hypo vanishing stripe. I get the two stripes confused, even in pics, but one has a decidedly different look that makes me think hypo. Heck, I'm not even sure I didn't photograph the same baby twice right now. I'll take more pictures later with my better camera and it'll help figure out what I'm looking at baby-morph-wise. :)

Anyway, this is "Scarlet." If it shows to be female, my son wants to nickname her "Queen Scarlet" after a dragon in his favorite book series.

This morning, I was thrilled to wake up and see this hypo lavender (nickname pending):

Hanging out with the hypo lav was another lovely normal, redder than my usual experience with normal babies. S/he is nicknamed "Norrrm!" ;)

We have one more pippie (want to say another normal, but can't tell) and two robust but unpipped eggs. (There are two that look less than promising, so I'm not expecting anything from them.) One of the eggs has a slice but no snoot.

Love babies!

they're gorgeous! I think your 'hypo lavender' is actually a hypo, though.

The pics look it, don't they? I don't know what's up with coloring...but the hypos are quite red and that guy distinctly more pink. I really need to try and get pics with a better camera.

OMIGOSHOMIGOSH!! As hatching is coming to an end (just one pippie left), I cut one egg that had a slice in it but no nose. Unfortunately, the baby was DIE. I very carefully cut the other looks-good-but-nothing-happening egg, thinking there was likely another DIE inside. An hour later, I saw THIS! This little lavender on the right may be saying, "Thanks for the help lady!" Yay!

(Meanwhile normal pippie next door says, "Nope. I ain't leaving. World is big and scary.")

I noticed earlier that egg felt tougher than the others--I wonder if the period when humidity levels were off made it a bit hard, and thus more difficult to cut through. I've never cut an egg thinking it'd help a baby; I've done it out of curiosity of what was inside. (Hubby is a science teacher, so sad as DIEs are, they are also great teaching tools.)

I am outright giddy to see that--and another lavender! I was hoping for at least one more. Woot!

That lavender baby whose egg I cut finally fully hatched (in about record time, too), and it is GORGEOUS! I was worried something was wrong with him/her, but in fact they are among the most robust of our babies. And that pattern! Love it! It's like a stripe that changed its mind a few inches down from the head.

My boys nicknamed her Rosetta--Rosy for short. :) And one of my buyers has already claimed DIBS!

Now, not to be completely eclipsed is their sibling, nicknamed Mr. Squiggles. S/he may "just" be a normal, but I absolutely love the Aztec pattern on this one!

And now I'm thinking you're right, Shiari--this one ("Snootle" :D ) does look to be a regular hypo and not hypo lavender. Ah well. I do love the pattern on him/her, too! Pretty babies.

What do you guys think of my stripes? Do you think they're normal stripes or hypo? They appear to be vanishing stripes, but I can't tell if they're normal or hypo.

And now, time for baby pile pics! You can see some of the older hatchlings have already started going blue for their first shed. This is quite the overachieving bunch!

Yay for 10 healthy babies!

Congrats on the babies!
That last one is really cool!

Did you record the temps during incubation?
If so, were there any fluctuations? What was the average temp?

I have been documenting my temps for my clutch that is about to hatch. (Not real often, but about 10 recordings, and they have all been just over 81 degrees.)

Beautiful babies <3 Congratulations on the bunch!!! I am so jealous i wanna stick my fingers in there and cuddle them all!

I didn't record temps, no, though I checked them frequently. The incubator was set to about 84 degrees.

They're already going blue! :D Can't wait to see their post-shed colors.

I'm also a little worried the dam Kamalah isn't eating. She was insatiable right after her postgravid shed, eating everything I offered her and rapidly gaining back her weight. She actually clearly became gravid again--she lost her appetite, I could feel the eggs, she was very round and ropey in her back half--but she reabsorbed them. (She lost so much weight after laying her first clutch, it's probably best she did.) She lost like 40g in the space of 10 days or so, presumably because of the egg absorption. She finally shed last week (I swear she was blue for ages) but still shows no interest in the food I offer her. I'm trying not to worry *too* much...I'll just keep offering her a weanling every few days.

Oh my god you have little ketchup cups for their water dishes!! And little cut up paper towel rolls!
I am just dying of cuteness right now, I can't even deal with this lol

I hope that your girl starts eating again soon!
Any update on her? Did she lay eggs?
They can reabsorb follicles, but once eggs have formed they cannot reabsorb them.
I hope she and the babies are doing well!
