Pied Ball Python

DeadMouse

Hungry, hungry Hognose!
Well, it happened again! We went to the Unique Animal Expo last weekend with the mind set that we were not going to buy any more snakes. We didn't get to the show until late, 2 hours before they were to close and our only reason for even going was to just catch up with some friends and maybe purchase some supplies. Then I found him...

I knew at that point, my ambition of not buying any new snakes had gone down the drain as my wife has been wanting a pied marked like this for a long time. So, I called my wife over to show her what I had found, she took one solid look and gave me those sucker puppy dog eyes. Without her even having to ask, I just told her to go ahead and check him out and if he passed muster, he was hers.

What is kind of ironic is that her very first snake 15 years ago was a ball python who was extremely aggressive with her and yet totally passive with me, but having been bit by it, she gave him away and focused her energies on her sulcata. Now, we've come full circle 15 years later and she's got another ball python :spinner:

What was funny is how she ended up naming him. Personally, I think it's silly but I guess it's what I deserve. I was talking to my father that evening and telling him about her new snake when I was telling him how she normally picks fruity names for her snakes like Sherry and Berry and Sherbert and Sorbet and I jokingly said she needed to pick a masculine name like Conan or Brutus or something. And for whatever reason, she ended up sticking with Conan. Naturally I then had to rent Conan The Barbarian and made her watch it since she had never seen it ;)

From what I was told from the seller, Conan originally belonged to Robert that runs the Reptile Geeks web site and was selling him for an insanely low amount to help raise funds for his site. So not only did we get an awesome snake at a killer price, we're helping out someone with a good cause :)

Anywho, here he is, Conan, in his full glory :dancer:

I just love the clean break of the coloring on pieds, it really trips me out...

If there was a BP to be had, that is the morph... I have hymed and hawed at Pieds for a few years.. Ishould have and could have a couple years back, and well the prices still keep dropping lower.. One of these years or some phenominal trade is when I will end up with one.. Unfortunantly, till then I willkeep working the Corns... Many congrats on a spectacular animal..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

What a beauty!!! I _think_ I just learned this week the difference between pied and ringer- even though I don't have them, I want to know what people are talking about. I love the scale close-up. That is a gorgeous snake.

Very nice. I plan on getting a pied "one of these days" when the prices drop.

(It's also a good thing you knew just to submit to the 'eyes'. Much easier when you just accept it. ;) )

Congrats on finding Conan! He's an amazing looking pied! I can't wait to get my hands on a pied myself, they are IMO the best looking ball pythons out there!

Dang! You got an adult pied ball. That's got to be one of the all-time coolest snakes there ever were.

The black/white is better than my cali king's.

I am not a fan of BP's at all. But I do love the Pied! I used to raise Peach Faced Lovebirds and the Pieds were my favorite of those as well.

Nice pick up!

What a pretty BP!! I think you have the same problem as I do, inability to attend a show without seeing a 'must have' snake! I am not huge into the BP's but the pieds are spectacular, if I were to get one I would want one like that... I wish corns had a morph like that!! I know there is pied sided but nothing like these guys...

Congratulations!!!

Pieds are awesome. I am expecting several clutches this year, and I can't WAIT to see them come out of the egg.

:dancer:

Beautiful animal! And yes, as mentioned, I was a bit surprised (and extremely pleased for you) that you scored an adult!!

Funny, I have a ball python who's pretty aggressive with me. I'd definitely deal with it a lot better if he was pied though! Oh that was so terrible.. :uhoh:

That is a beautiful snake even though Robert must've spilled bleach on it. :sidestep:

Out of all the morphs, I like these guys the best. Lucky you.. :)

WOW that is BEAUTIFUL! even before i got into snakes i was looking at a BP book, and i saw the piebald and i knew if i ever got a BP, it MUST be a piebald! i looked around on the internet for one... but the price shattered my hopes! haha!

i think for now i'm just gonna stick with cornsnakes, i love my babies!

also, another comment on the pictures. i have only ever seen 1 BP in real life. everytime i see pictures of them curled up, they look HUGE in girth/circumference/whatever you want to call it. and from my understanding, Conan is an adult? the picture of Conan in your hands really shows the scale of how big they are...which is not as big as i thought! they're just really meaty.

beautiful

You have one jealous person over here!!! Thats the perfect example of the one Ive been looking for... when the times right, though, Ill find my pied. :shrugs:

I want! I want!

What a beauty! That is one of my fav BP morphs, bumble bee being the other.

My normal BP is named Conan too :)
