Pied problem!

Like I said I won't be answering any of Davids questions....Anymore...
If the answer doesn't suit his ideal he makes out he's a victim and moves threads to gain support....
Lucky I saved the original question this time so I didn't look like I was coming down on the kid again.
I joined this as a way to improve my cornsnake knowledge not social network...
Though this is leaning more to a social networking site as of late....

Why cant it be a way to improve cornsnake knowledge and socialize at the same time with people who share the same desires as yourself? I know i plan on breeding my snakes one day, and i have learned a lot about breeding and husbandry from this site, As well as, made a few friends along the way.

It can and I try to work that way, especially on species specific sites I use (though they are more scientific and socialising is not part of their game)
or sites I sell on......
Altering posts and spreading mistruths about species I won't tolerate..
We have to wade through enough crap on the net without promoting it from members on here...
I have nothing against david as a person (I've never met him)
But some of his posts need to be addressed.....

And that is why I told him that moving every thread that he doesn't like the outcome of the posts to, into his own little haven, is the wrong thing to do.

I use this site as a place to learn, and to socialize. I like the atmosphere here and enjoy the learning experience from people like yourself, Mike.

If you want to learn about Pieds, contact Don at SMR. He's the one who produced the first ones, I think, or at least named them. I have an email from him when I was discussing with him about my P/S Blood. She clearly doesn't have a lot of white, but came from 2 high expression parents that are proven Pieds. Don didn't feel that he could charge a high price, so I got lucky and got her for $95 as a normal "bloodred" that just happen to be Pied. It's a very crazy gene.

have you posted pictures of her? i would like to see a picture if you haven't, and be directed to it if you have. Thanks.

Yep, she's got a thread in the Photo Gallery. Should be on the first page as I posted pictures this morning. Should be a title with "Cerise" in it. :} She's also my avatar.

I have seen a number of bloods over the years with a little white coming up the sides. But they weren't pieds.

I have found the best way to deal with edits (other than fixing typos or misspellings) is to leave the original in place, and then add the edited part to clear up something that is confusing or misleading. That is because if you change the content and meaning of the post, especially after some have replied to it, you will confuse readers who come later. If you do that more than a couple of times, nobody will take your posts seriously, because they won't be sure posts won't be changed later (or haven't already changed). Just helps the continuity of the thread. You probably haven't thought about it yet because you just recently got your "shiny thing", so didn't have to worry about it in the past, lol!

Ok, so do we know what pied is? Is is dominant, co dominant or recessive. BTW I have removed my self from all other conversations this about genetics lets keep it that way

I believe it's currently considered recessive... but its means of inheritance seems to be quite elusive, since no-white Pieds can produce high white babies and vice versa. (Edit: I certainly don't mean to sound like an expert. x_x This is just the information I've gleaned from my conversations about the P/S gene with Don.)

The snake you posted looks like a regular bloodred- many "regular" bloods have alittle white on them.

You may consider purchasing a good book on cornsnakes (ie Katy Love has a great one(s) and Don Soderberg also has a wonderful one). The Cornsnake Morph Guide (updated yearly) discusses the pied gene in great detail. You can also lear alot about it by using this site's "search function".

What classifys a corn to be "pied sided"? I have a bloodred that has some white on her sides and a very light color is she pied? Is it genetic or line bred? If I breed her with her brother who has not white on the side I would have granites, fires, hypo bloods and bloods all het pied! It is giveing me a head ache thinking about it.....someone explain. The corns were sold ot me as 1.1 bloodreds 100% het fire, 66% het granite, and 50% het hypoblood. The female is extreamly light and has the pied look and the male is darker and looks bloodred. I am confused. I don't really care either way but I would like to just lean about pieds a little bit. The pics of the corn are uploading now.

EDIT: I am not in it for money at all just figureing out what the deal is.

David, based on the genetic profile of your bloodreds, what you should get out of this breeding is approx. 3/4 bloodreds and 1/4 fires. Anery and hypo are only possible hets., so those would need to be proven out by breeding. When you start planning your pairings for the breeding season, don't take possible hets. to mean they are hets. That's putting the cart before the horse.

That snake is no more pied then my 2 normals are pied. David I can't believe you could even THINK that may be pied if you truly have studied before asking about that snake.

David is doing what many people do when they first start out in breeding. Everyone wants their snakes to be "special" or more than what they originally thought. Nothing wrong with hoping. I can't even begin to count how many normal corn pics people post and swear it is more than just a normal. Look at any snake long and hard enough and you'll see something special and unique. Only breeding will prove out your theories/hopes/dreams.

I agree with you on so many facets. However, David has proven time and time again to be all knowing on everything that has to do with every type of snake he owns that I find if odd for him to have to ask such a simple question as to if his certain snake is pied, when it obviously is not, even to someone like me who is not versed in the genetics of corns or any other snakes.

Yay snark! I am just asking! My god Nancy do you have anything positive to say ever? I am just asking? Is anything wrong with that at all?

Nancy! Again low expression pied side corns often have extreamly low expression. I was just asking but we all know how you find some sick pleasure in prying until you prove I am wrong.
