Well, genetics say we should have a 50/50 split of normals and amels pairing my classic het amel female and amel motley male, but this turned out to be a vivid lesson in the difference between theoretical and experimental probability: turned out to be 75/25. Ah well. Some of them are already spoken for, anyway, so they'll still be rehomed/sold with little issue.
What's awesome is I had a 100% hatch rate--all 12 fertile eggs produced healthy babies in decent weight. Last year, of the 13 fertile eggs there were 11 hatchlings, 1 DIE, and 1...uh...mess of not-snake in the egg. Interestingly, there was much less variation in size; I had a couple massive babies in the 10g range last year, but also one ITTY bitty 3g runt. This year, they are all in the 7g range, with one or two at 8g and two at 5g. Also, thus far, the clutch is much more even tempered (except for the one nicknamed Chomper
).
I'll post pics of their progress here. Not as fun or exciting as tesseras and such, but I still think they're cute and still think it's fun to chronicle their growth.
So here we go! Here are the babes, their weight, and initial temperament marker. You can tell my sons helped me nickname some of them.
"Flick"
"Henri" (sweeeet baby)
"Crackle"
"Ferdinand" (as in the gentle bull who refused to fight)
"Creeper"
"D" (as in Diez, baby #10)
