I want to give my little girl some green in her home, but am not sure which route I should go. Here are a few questions I have about plants:

*Is it difficult to maintain plants?
*Which live plants are best for corn snakes?
*Does the snake really care if the plant is real or plastic?
*What are some experiences you've had (good and bad) with real or fake plants?
 
I dont think live plants would be the best for corns. Live plants are used a lot in amphibious and arboreal species' cages due to the fact that they do not skitter across the ground much.

Live plants need bacteria to grow, which depending on the plant or living conditions (I am no expert in any means), the snake could get either respitory infections ro due to the high midity of plant soil, scale rot.

Ive had live plants in a crested gecko enclosure. They had to watered daily and have uvb during the day but that wasnt such a big deal seeing as the cresty had to be misted daily as well. In about a week, the plants started developing fruit flies and such and for some reason smelt really bad and musty (probably due to the confined space within the vivarium).

As for my snakes, I use plastic all around. Plastic plants are easy to clean if pooped on and I like to bring their plastic plants in a tub of water with them to help them shed during bad sheds.

Thats just my two cents. Live plants can make beautiful vivs, but I wouldnt recomend them for many species, one being corns.
 
I go for plastic. My taiwan beauty has a plastic vine in her tank, and she absolutely loves it. It's a lot sturdier than a live plant. And as previously stated, live plants require a LOT more attention, and direct sunlight/UVB. Not to mention you can just take 'em out of the tank and wash 'em off when they need to be cleaned.
 
I have fake ferns in my corns' setups and they love them most of all it seems. Easy to do, too. Just jam 'em into a sheet of styrofoam at increasing angles and it can look pretty real too.
 
I vote for fake. You can stick those little suction cup vines to the sides of the viv, to enclose it. My babies like to perch on the end of the vine that goes through the suction cup. And you can take a six foot long wired leafy vine and crumple it all up and just lay it in the back of the viv, over the hides and whatever, and then the baby can hide in it, climb it, travel around in it and be happy. Babies love to poop on the leaves! So it's good to be able to take it out and wash it.
