Pokie noses! Babies have arrived (graphic and sad ending)

I know :( So I had 19 eggs, 17 perfect babies, one DIE fully formed with no defects and one twisted wee baba with it's insides on the outside. I suppose it's a good clutch?

I am happy to have so many test subjects :(

Anyhoo, I must beef them up for biopsy. And I have a feeling my little spitfires will eat :) When is too soon to try them? I know most people wait for their first sheds as they are all full and happy with their yokes at this age. But would trying them and having any of them eat be too soon now? Some are 4 days old at this point...

It utterly depends on the results. If the test group of at the very least 5 come back negative, I'll surley keep a couple.

Sorry for the horrible English usage. What I wanted to say was...What do you do for a living that you need to test these animals. Are you in a Science field. Because the statistical return seems to only need you to test 36% of the babies, randomly selected to get an accurate cross section.

Well every single one of the babies has eaten his or her first offered meal, apart from one, who appears to have something wrong with it's mouth. It's extremely swollen and sore and the entire top jaw is a square shape. I don't remember ANY of the babies hatching like this! I think it must have squished it's face through an air hole and damaged a tooth and now a wee infection has set in. I am unsure what to do, and considering the purpose of this clutch, I'm not about to drag it 50 miles there and back to my vet. I think euthanasia is on the cards if the wee one doesn't improve. Looking lethargic and struggling to breath due to the inflammation. I think the kindest thing is to let him or her go...

If you have some hydrogen peroxide on hand, you could try wiping some on the mouth with a Q-tip. I know we use it diluted on reptiles at work, but my book on sick snakes doesn't mention diluting it. You could probably find more info on whether to use it full strength or diluted by doing a google search. Betadine in combination with the hydrogen peroxide is also mentioned in the book.

Nice lookin' clutch. Normals or not, they look good. I think I'd be happy to take a few off your hands if the testing goes okay. :D

And I would at least try treating whatever's up with the hatchling's mouth with some hydrogen peroxide instead of instantly giving up.

Okie dokie. I will give it a go. But I am in Vienna as of next week and won't be here to treat it reguarly! This is the only problem.
