Poop in water bowl? How to Clean?

When your slithery friend likes to go in the water bowl how do you go about cleaning it? Just a fresh water wipe down or actualy disinfecting it and if so with what?
 
I always take the water dish all the way out and wash it with dish soap in hot water. If there is poo in the water I pour the water into the toilet and wipe it out with TP first.
 
Vinegar. Plain white vinegar.
It is a natural antibacterial.

Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.
 
I always wash water bowls with disinfectant scrub soap, and soak the scrubber in bleach in between bowls. If a bowl gets pooped in, I _don't_ use the scrub brush. I rinse it by hand, wash by hand with disinfectant soap, soak in ammonia and then scrub with disinfectant soap again and rinse very well.
 
Thanks everyone. Sounds like a couple of different options and I'm sure they all work good. Just have to pick one now....:grabbit:
 
I keep a little spray bottle with a bleach/water solution. I spray my water bowls, let sit for 10 minutes, then wash with soap and water, rinsing well and wiping dry.
 
Can I ask why a lot of people go so far to clean the water bowls? I cook with chicken and eggs and don't bleach things, just wash them in hot water with dish soap. We've never had salmonella here. Is there something about snake stuff that needs more sanitation than what you would do with raw chicken or eggs?

I have no idea..:shrugs: i was just reading this and was asking myself the same thing.. i just wash it in hot water and dish soap...
 
Count me as another hot soapy water washer ;) Although I do use a bleach solution if they poop (I think I'm going to move to the vinegar though...I always have that around)
 
Easy, just throw it away!!

That's what I do anyways - about a year ago I switched to PVC couplers with 16oz cups (identical to 8oz ones used for hatchlings, just taller). It's much easier, quicker, and I don't have to worry about sanitation if poo gets in. Since the switch I haven't looked back.
