Popping!

I think I got it!
Well I definately got it on the males I popped, but either I have more females than males, or my popping skills aren't 100% yet.
Does 3.5 sound like it's way too high? I haven't done the rest of the clutch as they still had pinkies in the bellies...

Until you feel very sure of your popping skills, there are two sexes of snakes: males and unkowns.

Funny you put it that way! I have actually labeled all their cards with the male symbol for known males, and the ? for the rest! :grin01:

I sex "females" at least twice before feeling confident that they're going to stay that way. Everyone does make mistakes though. :)

My 'keeper female' has proved me wrong by suddenly growing hemis! The other hatchling is still (thanks Jaxom) 'unknown!'

3.5 is not unreasonable. But until you're really confident then I would still label them 3.0.5. I pop all "females" 3 times. If after the 3rd pop nothing pops; then I'm pretty sure its a girl.

As you get the hang of it, you will find the males get easier to pop and it usually just take one or 2 tries. The ones that pop as male, I put male on the stickers. If I don't see any hemis there, I try that snake again in a few days. If the next time they don't pop as male I put female on the sticker, I still double check all snakes one more time before shippng just to be sure.

I was thinking that if I do a whold other round of popping, and the same ones come out male and female, that should sorta settle it.. I mean I can surely mess it up, but the same way on the same ones? I like the number 3 though. I'd feel pretty secure about my labeling if everybody came up the same sex 3 times.

Males should be pretty unmistakable. But for sure pop "females" a few times. I myself have not got my popping skill down yet. I have a known male that I can't get to pop.
