Hi Nanci,
BCC's (
Boa constictor constrictor) are considered your "true" red-tails. They are almost always referred to by locality i.e. Suriname, Guyana, Brazilian, Venezuelan etc. The different morphs, Albino, Anery, Hypo etc. are based on BCI (
Boa constrictor imperator) or common Boa that range from Mexico into Columbia and Brazil. There are Island Boas that are identified as BCI as well. There are however other Boa genus as well. There is the BCO (
Boa constrictor occidentalis) Argentine Boa (we have one) and the short tail Boas (
Boa constrictor amarali) and long tail Boas (
Boa constrictor longicauda) named as a sub-species of Bci's (i think). There are a lot of variations between the Boas of South America. I was going to suggest the link that Elle has posted for some information but she beat me to it. Here is another great site for you to get a ton of information as well.

Boas are our second love next to our Cornsnakes, maybe PJ"s first love, and they are awesome animals. If you didn't mind a bigger bodied snake I would say to definitely add one to your collection. Hell, we have 7 in our collection and want more. Hope this helps Nanci, now go get yourself edumicated. :crazy02: JK
Now, back to cka's post. The tail on him is incredible. I love how distinct the tail markings are on Bcc's. Great specimen, if you ever decide to get rid of him.......
