R.I.P Steve Irwin

I read this last night on yahoo. I loved that guy. He was so much fun to watch! Man a sting ray of all things!! I'll never forget that guy....

So sad to hear this i loved the bloke to bits i thought he was awesome

He helped get me into wildlife and Snakes even more i just loved his programmes.

My Condolences are with Terri, Bindi, Bob, and all his family.

The animals and everyone has lost a great person

R.I.P Steve Irwin

Love him or hate him, nobody can deny the fact that he raised awareness about issues like wildlife conservation in a big way. Hopefully that will not be lost as well

If anyone is interested, Animal Planet seems to be running loads of specials right now on his early years and what not. I got quite a laugh over seeing 9-year-old Steven tackle his first croc!

Loss of a great man!

Steve Irwin was a great man ,He showed his true heart felt love for animals like nobody else,His shows made me laugh and some brought tears to my eyes. It is such a shame to loose a person who has made such a big impact on other peoples thoughts about reptiles and other animals! My condolances go out to his family and friends who truely love him as much as alot of people.I will never forget him

I was laying in bed lastnight when my brother was like "Steve Irwin is dead..." and I was like "Oh yeah...right..." And then he told me that it was true...and I cried a little bit. Then when I was in blockbuster tonight they were playing the Crocodile Hunter Movie...and I almost cried again....

He did great things for wildlife and he will be terribly missed everywhere I'm sure...

Man, I heard about this in chat last night and I think I was in denial till late this afternoon. Love him or hate him, the man was the best thing to happen to animals, especially reptiles ever. He showed the positive sides of animals feared for thousands of years. He showed the world just how precious nature is and how much more conservation efforts were needed. My senior year, in the "where will they be in 10 years" my classmates named me "the next crocodile hunter", and much to my dismay I haven't done much to uphold that. Sad it took something like this to give me back my drive and love for wildlife, but it's goign to take a lot of people to fill that one man's boots. The only way to repay Steve for what he did is to continue his work in whatever way we can. The loss we endured will not be forgotten anytime soon, and I'm sure all animals on this planet, especially the reptiles, shed a tear in his honor today.

When I woke up this morning and walked into the living room, my mom told me that he had died. I was like, "O.M.F.G. It can't be true." But it was. I was greatly saddened by this loss. I never really liked his show, but I had always admired him for how he spread the word about conservation and everything.

I heard that he had been shooting a documentary about sting rays when he was stung. Just how cruel is fate?

So sad! A huge loss to the reptile/animal community. I didn't always agree with what he did on camera, but because of him certain species of wildlife were cast in an entirely new/helpful light. Certainly a whole generation will remember him as the personality that introduced them to the wonder of mother nature.

May flights of carnivorous poisonous beasties bear you to your rest Steve, and may the coals of the BBQ and the ice in the cooler never run dry.

P.S. Has anyone managed to sort out a more official cs.com book of condolences?

My mom told me about what happened to steve when she got home from work yesterday...it didn't really sink in till later that night when they were showing clips of his past shows on animal planet...and i was just crying...i mean he wasn't my family but he was still a very important guy to the world. My dad thinks its ironic that a placid non threatning sting ray got him instead of one the more dangerous beasties he works with. And i think about Terri alot about how she feeling and how she dealing with this great blow....and little Bindi she was such a daddy's girl and now hes gone...and baby Bob may or may not even remember him

Steve was a great man for all the stuff he did for the conservation of habitat and protecting wild life.....i think most of the world will mourn his death

RIP Steve Irwin 1962 - 2006

I realy dont feel sorry that he died. To me he was a idot I feel sorry for his family. When I watched his show he adused the animals and stressed them out not like O'sha and all the others that do the same type of show. A sting ray will not attack you for no reason . Steve had to be harassing the poor thing for it to attack him.
I watch him on one of his shows that had a red spitting corba . He talk about how the snake did not like to wast its venom, that it took a lot of enegry to make the venom. . That it only had so much venom in is glands. The idot made the poor snake spit venom over and over again and again waisting percious venom.
I dont like the way he handled any of the animals . He was too rough with them and stressed them out. Now the other guys that do the same type of show respect the animals and are way more professional in the way they handled the animals .

If you don't have something nice to say Vinman..... just shut up will ya! Yeah I said it.

Steve Irwin was a great animal conservationist who did an incredible amount of good for them; and he was a great inspiration for many, many, people around the world. I cried when I heard he died, and I have been welling up here at work all day. He brought the world of animals, especially reptiles, to people like know one else, and he always emphasized conservation and how we should understand animals instead of kill them.

Steve Irwin will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

And I will say this again:

Ah but at least he could spell....

Your reply was uttery unnecessary... I dont see O'sha as a world wide household name promoting wildlife conservation... I don't see mass evidence of his "amazing" work in the world everyday. But with Steve we did... I can only hope Terri continues his legacy to educate people like yourself.

You may have not liked the way he handled animals, and in just the same way I don't like your opinion and blatant stupidity. Try to think of more debatable points to call Steve Irwin an Idiot!!

Just incase you need to read everything twice... I'm sure many people on here certainly don't.

Someone photoshop Bob in! What a beautiful picture of an amazing family!!

For someone who is apparently 43, that was a very infanitle reply.

This was a memorial thread, Until your unnecessary and disrespectful remarks.

I am sorry, who did you call an idiot? This must be the most inappropriate post I have read on CS. In case you did not notice, this is an memorial topic. Kicking someone when they are down is not cool dude.

:-offtopic Of course, Vinny will now attempt to lock this thread, simply for our disagreement with his opinions, or at least by his trademark delivery and foresight of those opinions.

Admittedly, of the wildlife TV show hosts, Irwin was not my favorite. But I give him all due respect for "enlightening the laity" about the environment and conservation. When a voice as broad- and far-reaching as his is silenced, it is indeed a time to mourn and issue condolences to his family.

But again, admittedly - and while I'm well versed with the grieving process - the tributes in the forum signatures are weirding me out.

regards,
jazz
