racking adults

hi, guys and gals, how many of you rack your adult corns? what size boxes do you use(in inches as i can work out the gallon/quart thing lol) and do you have any pics

Thanks

All of my adults go in either display vivs or 41 qt sterilite tubs. I house yearlings and sub-adults in 28 qt tubs. Others will house adults in 28 qt tubs; I personally just think they're too small; but that's just me.

Here's my adult rack

I agree on the 41qt size for adults. I did use the 27qt for a little while, but it's definitely a tight fit, especially if you want to give an adequate temp gradient for a full grown adult.

thanks, the boxes i was going to use were/are 26" x 17" x 9" as these are readily avaliable and just viv any monsters. do you reckon they would be ok?

I rack my adults. I use the 64ltr really useful box as it has a good bit of height to it. Personally I hate low/long boxes for adults as I find many of mine really make the most of the added height!

thanks for that, i was considering the 50litre, whichis the same dimensions floor wise, also do you think this new animal welfare bill's going to affect racking systems?

Naaaa not in the slightest. Just keep it hush hush ;)

I use 50ltrs too but thats for yearlings/juvies (corns) and sub adult/adult royals. I know its the same floor space but I feel less height makes them feel a bit safer. My adults use the height constantly, although I do provide one branch for them.

Rack pictured is custom made for our needs. We wanted to be able to have hatchling royals/yearling corns in the 35ltrs then change them to 2 64's when the time came. Its a great rack and houses a few different species atm. It is huge though, And because im a shortarse I gotta tippy toe to get to the top :p

We are currently using 5, 18, 35, 50, 64lts. All which fit into that one rack :)

Thanks, what the problem is that ive got 17 corns at the moment, and if put into the correct size vivs 3ft x 2 x 18" for example would not only cost about £3grand but also swallow massive amounts of space

I was contiplating in putting 3 females to a 4ft viv or ideally individually put them into a racking system

so with youre picture i take it the top ones are 64litre, then the next ones a 50litre sideways?

No the top 4 in that picture are 35tlrs but can be changed to 64's without lids or any other size with lids. The second two are 50's and the bottom is a 64.

A 64ltr is roughly £13... Plus the convenience of cleaning, lightweight, easily racked etc I would go with 20 64ltrs :p They just look great and are so sturdy. I personally hate contincos and wouldn't house adult corns in them. The boxes never have an even base which means heat is not evenly distributed in racks. They are great for hathclings though.

yeah, ive just got a 64litre(just 5mins ago) and it only makes a small difference to how many i can stack in a normal height room(8 50litres or 7 64litres) so this is the size you use? and youve never had a corn that dwarfs it, or has given you concern?

ive got my hatchlings and yearlings in small and meduim conticos which are fine, but the large is way smaller than the really useful and quite easy for an adult corn to lift the centre and get out

Even 600+gram panther looks small in them. And he makes use of every inch of space (hes an active boy). I feel these are a great way to house sub/adult corns!
