I have an AP Economy Plastics rack on the way and was wondering...at what size do you feel comfortable putting a juvenile corn in the rack without a lid on the bin? I'm going to keep lids on my '08s for a while but Sixx is the one I'm wondering about...he is about 95 grams now. I have heard the gap in the AP racks is about a 1/4 inch. I think I would be OK with that but I just wanted to double check with everybody. Thanks!
 
It's very hard to get bins into _my_ AP rack with lids on. I have a 90g snake in there right now- no way that big fatty could get out.

I just went and looked- one rack is less than a quarter of an inch gap- but I wouldn't put a baby in there, the other is much tighter.
 
Cool...thanks for checking on that for me! Guess I'll have to keep the little guys in their Rubbermaid tubs a while longer...they are 15 and 9 grams! And now I will have 5 empty slots in the rack. TROUBLE ;)
 
Yeah, that's small. When I got my first rack, a bunch of new babies were supposed to go in, but I chickened out and moved adults into it, instead, and put the babies in the adults' old Critter Cages (sliding locking lids!)
 
Their 6qt Rubbermaid tubs are actually 5.5 inches tall so maybe I could just slide them in one shelf and only use the rack as a heat source. I'll figure something out when it gets here...
 
I'll look at mine next time I have one of the smaller 2007's out. But you won't really know till you get your rack and see how tight it is. As I said, one of mine is very tight and has hardly any gap at all- the bins take a little effort to slide out. The other is looser, but not a quarter inch. And it varies slightly from shelf to shelf, too.
 
Thanks guys! I haven't had an escapee yet (knock on wood) so I don't know how small of a gap they can fit through. I'm guessing its like a cat...if they can get their head through then they can get the whole body out.
