Reputable??

Sounds pretty fair to me. I think there's no reason to doubt their legitimacy; I do believe that there are many field experts who are equipped to own exotic and potentially dangerous but only in special circumstances. The company is doing nothing illegal, even if their trade, practices, and even means of advertising online are a bit "unusual," but that does not equate "unethical."

so who's buying the boa...? lol i'll give them a chance i'll buy the armadillo lizard probably at some point in january after doing all my research :) ill let you guys know how it went

Whooooa. They have Boomslangs and Black Mambas for sale. That's insane. Kind of cool, but insane! I'd only ever own one type of hot snake and that's an Albino Monocled Cobra. -sigh-

But I also agree that there are many awesome, reputable breeders on this site. :}

The points people made up to this point are still intact. Albino Boas of them same age are sold for a deal more- a distributor usually wants to make money, selling animals he can get a deal more for cheap is counter productive, to say the least.

I wouldn't take that risk, based on my own experience.
An email like that hardly serves to lower the red flag I am seeing.

You are more than welcome to it though

I also must admit I never quite understood why people thought that getting an email will somehow change things. "oh they -are- trustworthy because they say as much"? I see no info about origin, nothing, just a statement that they "want to get rid of them young". Well people get rid of them very efficiency at higher prices.

Call me stubborn if you like.

I do understand your point. In another thread I posted a link to a Youtube video in which a man who works at Prehistoric Pets, which I've heard people swear by, was forcing very expensive snake twins and triplets out of their eggs early, yolk still attached. My point is that even the most reputable of websites can unfortunately can sometimes have unsavory practices in regards to their animals, even names that have been known to generally deliver seemingly well-taken care of reptiles to customers.

Ordering ANYTHING off of the internet, especially live animals, requires a giant leap of faith. Also, it seems that shipping would cause a great deal of stress for the animal. I would imagine buying online to not be the preferred method of obtaining a reptile for those reasons, yet oftentimes these animals can be obtained online much more cheaply than from a breeder or pet store. Online vendors MUST keep their prices low in order to remain relevant to individuals looking to purchase a live animal. It seems to me that it is what this distributor is doing - they probably buy very cheaply in bulk and are able to offer certain animals at cheaper prices than retail because they move vast quantities.

Their guarantees seem fair - 4 days is not a ton of time, but it is enough time to get the snake checked by vet if the arrival date is planned in advance. Their responses were prompt and professional. The general layout of their website is impressively designed despite the use of stock photos. They do include an extensive information section linking to other websites which I do not necessarily see employed on other website selling potentially dangerous exotic animals.

Just some pointers. No, I do not plan on ordering any reptile from them or online. Not ready to own an alligator or even another snake. Why? Because I am a responsible, informed reptile owner just like most serious owners, breeders, and collectors are. Most of the people I've seen on this board and in the e-reptile realm (can I use that terminology? Am I allowed?) have been responsible and informed as well. Keep the good faith.

Actually, the vast majority of animals purchased by serious hobbiests are purchased online and shipped. In fact, even small scale breeders typically sell online and ship. Just look around here at how many members here have snakes from across the country. I would say it is the preferred, or at least most frequently utilized, method of purchasing herps amongst serious/educated hobbiests. Typically, however, people buy straight from the breeder online, rather than through a dealer.

Anyway, for the record, I agree with Oren - but, alas, I'm out of rep. I simply would not take the risk. Too many red flags.

No, no! No no. I just, I dunno. I don't get any bad vibes from the website, I found most the reptiles they offered fascinating at the very least . . . yet I would not buy them myself. If someone's informed and able to, great. That's just my 2 cents. I feel there's nothing left to say, save others giving their 2 cents.

I've given mine.

No, your're not a guinea pig or any sort of a rodent :)
Some of us consider the price and several other elements questionable- Personally however there are two things going in my case that others here do not:

1- I live in Israel so buying from them is irrelevant, thus removing the temptation element entirely and making it a theoretic question at best... and I am aware that there's a different because of it.

2- I am in contact with a big time breeders and we're friends- I have access to some really nice stock for relatively low prices and I know the facilities, all snakes involved and from time to time I even help with the maintenance- having such a source practically removes any need of mine to shop elsewhere.

When you take these two things into account, it's no wonder my opinion is cautious, idealistic and I don't fall to the temptation(because even if I wanted to, I couldn't fund a shipment to Israel! :) )
On the one hand it allows me to check the bare facts and voice an opinion, on the other I am not subjected to the same temptation/pressure.

If anyone -is- going for that Albino Boa- best of luck and I hope you'll prove me wrong :)

I can't get past the front page. Can someone post a link to the $90 albino boa or a caresheet or two? I'm getting a Pac Man frog eyeball and no links...

Chip, here is the page link to where I found snakes : http://www.primevalpets.com/

If that link (to where I found snakes) doesn't work, click 'Snakes' in tiny print at the bottom, of the page with the pacman frog.

And.....................the link above does not. Weird vibes I am getting, said Yoda.

I'm trying to figure out what I would do with an black mamba or a boomslang.

Exotic assassin man?

uhm sell their venom to researchers...or .... to assassins lol, no seriously you can sell it to crate antidotes to some labs :)

Sure you can, but before you do, would you mind signing that will that leaves all your snakes to me? (excluding the black mamba) :crazy02:

The site works just fine for me, from the original link and from the one Eric posted... :shrugs:

I wouldn't mind a Boomslang, someday, if I am able to provide it a large enough, and secure enough, arboreal enclosure. They are pretty incredible animals, from what little I know about them. They can keep the black mamba, though. I don't need one of them...

I imagine most places would require some sort of permit to milk and sell venom. I don't know that for certain but, it would make sense...at least to me.
