RIP Andy the Crotal-Okeetee...

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
Little Andy the Crotal-Okeetee was my favorite demon spawn of Satan. Every time I picked up his tub, he would start going crazy, tail rattling, striking, etc. Today, when I went to feed him, nothing. Not a rattle, not a strike, barely even movement. He moved his head once to look at me. Then it seemed like that was it, but I could still see him breathing... it looked like he was in pain, and I didn't want him to suffer. So I had to make the unfortunate decision to put him in the freezer.

RIP little dude. Your bite marks will be missed.

The day I brought him home:

RIP Andy, you angry wee beastie.

Robbie, I know you have just lost a loved pet, but there is no way I would not get an autopsy on a snake that just dies for no apparent reason? I know you froze him, so thats out of the question now unfortunatley :(

I know I should have, but I thought about it after I had already put him in the freezer. Relieving his pain was my main concern.

I know it's hard to make these descisions when an animal is clearly suffering. I just hope it was something freak like internal organ issues or whatever...

Robbie, I brought up quarantine. I'm sorry but a sudden snake death so soon after all the new purchases rings alarm bells. I truly hope it's a one-off, unrelated event. RIP little Andy.

If he was still breathing then he could well have been conscious and if you were concerned about relieving his suffering/pain a trip to the vet would have been the best option IMO where they could have euthanased him. I even think a bash on the head is a better way to dispatch an animal than being frozen. You worry about pain but how painful do you think having ice crystals forming in your blood and tissues is? It bursts the cells and ice burns.

Do youknow, out of interest what contagious things corns can actully spread if not quarantined (except mites) first? Because I know of IBD in pythons but what about corns?

I'm sorry, Robbie. I hate it when snkes die for no apparent reason, and you are just left with questions.
