RIP Clementine, my beautiful boa lassie. (Updated PM results)

Thank you everyone. I need to prepare myself for the worst, which is IBD. And with the symptoms she was showing it's a possibility. BUT Allistair (the vet) who has seen many cases of IBD said she was showing very mild symptoms and that it could be attributed to the fact her kidneys were so horrifically damaged. I will have the results from the PM within 4-5 days including all the organ biopsies as it's quite an important case.

IF it is IBD then I guess I need to watch my collection very very carefully and euthanise any snakes which show similar symptoms. I don't know if I will be strong enough to watch my beloved animals suffer the same fate as Clementine. So lets just hope and pray she did not die from such a horrific illness. I don't want any more of my precious creatures taken away from me :'(

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I hope I can find some peace soon, as lack of sleep and continous crying is only making myself ill. I just miss her so damn much.

Elle, I am so, so sorry. I don't know what else to say, lass.

EDIT : Elle, I went reading up on it and what a horrible thing. I hope you get some answers, and I hope they are...not too bad.

Thanks guys. I am just off the phone with Allistair who has finnished the gross PM. He said she had a very enlarged kidney and the cause of death was renal failure in his opinion. She also had a very congested liver. But things are looking suspect which is bad news. Once we have the pathology results back I will know what to do. The next step is get all my boids in for IBD testing.

I can't bear to think of putting all my beautifuls boas and pythons to sleep. But I will do what needs to be done. There is simply no getting away from the fact that if this is IBD then I will be in serious trouble, and the best I can do for everyone else in the herp community is let them know and take necessary precautions against my own collection. If they ALL need to be euthanised then thats what I will have to do.

I know this is an extreme senario, but from the sounds of things I need to prepare myself for the worst and it's the hardest thing I have ever had to do...

I really it hope that is isn't IBD. I am over here holding up hope for you Elle.. I know how much you love your babies :)

Elle I am so sorry for your loss it sounds like you went above and beyond the call of duty, but even them sometimes its not enough. I hope the necropsy is conclusive so you can be at some peace:(

It's going to be conclusive either way. She either had IBD or she didn't. And I am ready to deal with either senario.

I am really sorry for your loss.
I doubt she could have received better care than she got from you. You allowed her to pass on with dignity and gave her a fighting chance.
I hope the memories of happiness with her will strengthen you in the future.
She was a magnificent snake.

I'm so sorry Elle, I've never met her but even I got a tear in my eye to know she passed plus the situation you are in now waiting for results. Clemetine was one of the most beautiful boas I've ever seen and loved seeing pictures of her. I'm very sorry your poor girl passed and I hope that everything turns out okay for you and the rest of you dear snakies.

Thank you. She was truley one in a million. Such a gentle creature, and I am sure she knew I was trying to help her as I was pushing 14 inch long tubes down her to give her medication twice daily. She never even struggled.

If she does not have IBD which I hope to god she doesn't, then my dream of breeding this rare locale may still come true as I gave my very dear friend my other female (J'adore) last year. And at the very least I still have Beaux for now.

Looking at him is like looking at Clementine. I slipped up twice today and called him Clem, then proceeded to burst into tears lol. It's hard, but time is a healer. It's also a killer when you are waiting on something so important. I just want to know one way or another but apparently the PM was very suspicious and things look grim. Lets just pray for a little ray of hope...

Aw Elle, I'm so sorry! It's terrible to lose a pet, and I know you much you love your snakes....I have some of Clementine's pictures saved for when you posted before- she was a just a beautiful snake.

I can understand what you're going through too....I just got off the phone with my avian vet, looks like my little 9-year-old budgie won't last much longer. I'm hate thinking about it- I'm going to be devastated when she goes!! :(

I am so sorry to hear about your wee birdie. Is 9 years good for a budgie? I'm sorry but I don't know much about birds.

Wow, this is a tough week for some of my favorite snakes owned by other people.

So sorry to hear it Elle..

Oh, darling Elle, I'm so sorry to hear that Clementine didn't make it :(

If I could drive, I'd be seriously tempted to make the drive to Scotland, just to give you a big personal hug, but as I can't, I'll have to send some very special virtual ones instead ((((((hugs))))))

I truly hope there is nothing infectious found when the reports come back and I will be keeping as many appendages crossed as I can, in the hope it will not be IBD!

Rest in peace, sweet Clementine

Thank you Susie, that means a lot. I appreciate all the well wishes and support you and others have gave me, and I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My girl will be greatly missed. Things are so strange with an empty space in the rack that I will never be able to fill or replace.

What a beautiful girl! I'm so sorry to hear of Clem's passing. Just reading this makes me tear up. It sounds like you did everything possible to help her get better, and to make her more comfortable for as long as you could. I think a tatoo in her memory sounds like a wonderful idea. ((hugs)) Hope you feel a bit better soon.
