We picked up Romeo tonight after an almost 2 hr drive down and longer back--traffic uggh!! He was sold as a ghost at a reptile show a couple month ago. But he appears to be a snow of some type? Maybe bubblegum. He is pinker than the pics appear. They said they didn't handle him much, there was no substrate, greenery to climb in (which not everyone uses), no temp or humidity guages, probes, etc...nothing but a water bowl, wood and paper towel roll and was in a 40 gallon breeder tank with a busted bottom. He did have a human heat pad on the bottom and scenery on the tank. He seems healthy though. He said he was a good eater and has grown alot in past few weeks. He is 21", 46 grams and approx. 6 months old. He seems really sweet. He went right to me and snuggled against me. We put him in a 10 gal viv and he was exploring like crazy. We also noticed it looked like he had to poop so we put him in some water with a rag and sure enough a few mintues later he did. And since he is a light color, I can see another black spot working its way down. When he pooped, there were chunks of fuzzy left...a tail and what looked like organs. Is this normal? None of the other ones have done this before. All the rest do the "bird poop" thing. There was white in it too as it should be but the rest looked odd. He ate 3 days ago and shed a month ago.

Can anyone tell me if he is regular snow or bubblegum? He belly is white, no checkers.

Looks like a snow to me, but if he is pinker in person he might be bubblegum. 46g at 6 months? I think he is older than that. My snow is 10 months and she only weighs 21g and she is the biggest of my '09's. Maybe she can be his Juliet someday :D breeding loan....
 
The guy said he got him a couple months ago at the Manassas show. We went in Feb so it was before that or I would have gotten to him first...lol. He is a beast but I think he is more like 9 months myself. Our other snow is like 2 yrs old and his colors are similar but has more of the yellow on the top sides. But I know hatchlings usually look nothing like their adult counterparts so it is hard to tell about Romeo. I am going to try to get pics in daylight when he is ready and settled. He is really friendly so I am hoping he will not be stressed for long so we can play with him.
 
He looks like a pretty standard snow. Are you sure he has no checker patterning on the belly? A snow would have "white and clear" checker patterning unless it had some other genes in play, and your snow does not show signs of those.
 
He looks like a standard snow to me, too. He's cute, congrats!

Maybe, but not necessarily that much older. My butter was 45g when I last weighed him and he's just about 8 months old.
 
I'd probably also say a normal snow - I have a very pink one myself, so I'm just going to say there's really no accurate way to judge other than waiting until they're adults and doing breeding trials, unless you can find the person who produced it.

As for the weight, that can be a really hard way to judge age. I have several '08 normals that I produced, and even the ones that ate immediately range from 60 to 90 grams. Genetics actually have a lot to do with how much a snake will grow from any given amount of food.

Anyway, he's beautiful! Congrats on your find. :)
 
Ok, I checked today and he does have belly checkers. They are white and clear. He seems to be adjusting pretty well. I will post more pics once he settles in!
 
He's a cutie! And I'll second that about not using weight to judge age...I have 09s that I bought in August as tiny hatchlings (probably 10g, before I had a scale) who are well in to the 60g range now. And I have another I bought last month from the same breeder who I believe is close to the same age, and only 10g. Feeding plays a huge role in growth rates!
