Rosie is growing!

Aww...she is sweet, i can hear the happiness in your posts. Funny how dogs have the effect on people eh! Loved all the pictures.

Yesterday I took Rosie to the game and equine festival at the Kent County showground. I was hoping to race her, but after wandering around past clayshooting, what I thought was a racing practice area, gundog scurries, about a million stalls and back again in a loop, the open area was where the lurchers were being raced. No barriers and open ground with nothing to stop the dogs ending up either in the carparks or on the main road leading into the site. Of course watching the seasoned racers stopping at where the lure stopped I had visions of Rosie just running off randomly anywhere! Then I saw a dog racing off leapt on by one of the organisers as it ran past him and that made my mind up totally, no racing for us. The dog and the man both got injured and there was no way I was risking that for my girl.

So off we went to see some of the exhibits, including some ferrets and birds of prey

Then we met up with my sister with two of her terriers, Phoebe and Brock and went to the terrier and lurcher show areas

Then it was time for Rosie's class, no rosettes for us this time, the more elegant, greyhound type lurchers caught the judge's eyes, but I still think Rosie's the best!

Meanwhile my sister took a second prize with Phoebe, then Terry's brother gave in to our pleas to show Teal, his Plummer bitch, and she got 2nd place too!

By then I was running out of steam, so rather than stay to see the showjumping I had to go home for a much-needed sleep! I've had 15 hours and just about feel human again. Rosie was tired out too and slept in my arms all the way home.

More little adventures with my girlie. A trip to the estuary for some fun, and today a trip into town to buy mousicles

I'm thinking of taking Rosie out on a trainride this week, if the weather is nice I might take her to the seaside! (Of course once the summer gets here it'll be too hot and too crowded, so this is probably a good time of year to do it!)

Haha! Thanks Josie! Those are my current favourite 'smart' boots, waterproof and comfortable, the mud just washes off them and best of all I got them on sale for £10!

Rosie should be given an ecological award for her work at cleaning up the rubbish along the countryside.

Today was a beautiful sunny day, so Rosie and I set out for the seaside. The beach we went to usually takes 20 minutes to reach by train, except there was a problem with the tracks meaning a wait half-way for a substitute bus service.
Rosie took the travelling and waiting in her stride, so soon we were at Whitstable, walked through the harbour and onto the beach.
There Rosie rushed enthusiastically into the water, and straight out again! She's never been to the sea and seemed puzzled by the waves splashing her.

So we walked further along the beach, until I had the bright idea of rolling up my jeans and getting in the water to encourage Rosie, which worked a treat. Then she checked out some yachts and the beach huts.

By then Rosie was much more confident, splashing about catching seaweed and whelk egg cases in the waves, chasing off a crow and digging holes

So then it was time to head back along the beach, have an ice-cream and wait for the bus home.

Yep, she fell asleep on the train and is stretched out sound asleep on the sofa now! Not so much from any amount of exercise, although she did meet up with a greyhound and a lurcher and have a good race up and down the seafront with them, more from the mental stimulation of doing something different. If the weather holds up nicely I've got an idea of another new place to take her next week, but from tomorrow I'm back to work all weekend so it'll be short walks until then. Just walking her through town, with her having to walk to heel properly, all the people about, is a good balance for her free-running time and I've found that by using 'here' to mean walking close to heel with lots of praise has had a knock-on effect of improving her recall when I call 'Here, here' just as she's about to run off into the distance!
