I wad hoping to have a snake by the end of spring. Now that will not be happening, well maybe. My stupid cousin decided she wanted to.breed her cat. Don't know why but whatever I don't understand what half my family does. Anyway the person she is giving the kittens too is a bad person to cats. Her kids kick, shoot, set the cats in fire etc. She refuses to listen to me. The kids come to school bragging about it!! AC has been called on them so many times for a reason. I have personally called three times. So I'm taking atleast 3 kittens from the litter. Will foster out 2 and keep 1. I have a one year old cat and she misses a playmate and I miss having two cats. I'm hoping I can get the others into rescue(I have a few friends who are cat lovers and deal with rescue). I personally kept the mom cat for 3 months and while she is crazy she is a sweety and adorable! This does give me more time to research, save money, find reptile shows etc... So hopefully I will have a corn snake by the end of summer. I'm hoping the pregnancy didn't take though. Way to many cats in shelters. Then ill offer go pay for the female cat to be spayed. I added a pic of hopefully not momma cat. I know this is a snake forum but I needed to vent.

The ignorance of humans astounds me. Cats are induced ovulaters which means they don't actually ovulate until they are bred...so sadly chances are pretty darn good that she got pregnant. I am sorry to hear of this situation and hope you are able to get the kittens into safe hands...Is there anyway you could get her spayed now? Are there any low cost spay clinics in your area?

My cousin would not allow it, at all! She would probably shoot me if I did that. And once those kittens are 6 weeks I'm taking momma to get spayed at the low.cost clinic. It's through a shelter and I'm a regular there and trust me they are not happy!! They know.if I could I would bring her in. I have been in tears by how many cats are brought in for stupid reasons(luckily no-kill). I know cats can get pregnant once they have kittens on the ground but I talked my cousin into not doing that and I think I got that through her head. Momma cat is luckily inside and not outside. I usually want to keep kittens/ puppies with mom until 8 weeks but this situation is different.

Did she actually allow the cat to be bred or is she just talking about it? We have a client at the clinic I work at who has done something similar...and it really makes me want to punch her in the throat. She KNOWS why it's a bad idea but she does it because "it will be a good experience for the kids"...............................really really fires me up and I can't be in the same room with her.

From what I've gathered from FB and from her(she walks on egg shells around me and when she talks about breeding) her friend brought over his male cat the other day and they mated. I'm not anti breeding (I'm currently looking for a corgi breeder) but stuff like this angers me.

Responsible breeding is one thing...THIS...is not...this is completely irresponsible (which you already know)...sorry, gets me fired up as you can tell :(

When I take my dogs in for shots/check ups me and my vet have venting sessions, lol. Last time k was in she had someone breeding there bloodhound because the puppies were cute....WHAT!? All puppies are cute...not a reason to breed. My parents allowed our older female to have pups before(I was 12 didn't have much input) ans there loud and obnoxious. Im going through the puppy stage now with one dog and im ready to pull my hair out at times, lol.

Oh, I am SHAKING with fury!!! I am not condoning theft, but is there any way that the cat could "escape" and not be found? When I hear about animal cruelty I want to vomit.

If she is pregnant, she can still be spayed. I adopted a cat from the Humane Society and had her spayed two days later and they told me she had been pregnant. I also brought home a really friendly cat from my work's parking lot, I realized she was very pregnant and took her to the MASH low-cost spay clinic, while I started to wait, I was shown "signs" that this wasn't right. I went and got her back, watched all the kitten come into the world two weeks later and adopted them to lovely homes. Unfortunately two years later I had to take two of the kittens back from my friend, she was SO allergic and tried so hard for two years to live with them, but just couldn't.

So that is the story (in order) of Minnie LaRue, Amy, and Amy's daughters Cub and Joey.

This is exactly why I left the pet department and now work produce. The ignorance of people, I tried to educate who I could but there are so many ignorant rednecks that would come in bragging about their cruelty. Also why I didn't try too hard to work at Petsmart, I would get fired for kicking people out. Emphasis on "kicking."

There would be no way the cat could escape. She lives with her parents and her mom is home all the time(disability). If I could abort this litter I would have it done. I usually don't like doing that but this cat is young(1 1/2) and its just sad and pathetic. Nothing I say except with allowing me to get her fixed is getting through her head. I was so angry when I found out and I'm kicking myself for giving kitty back to her. I had her for a few months after my cousin had a baby. I couldnt get her spayed then(my black lab who is older had to have a few tests and x-rays done) now I have the extra money and we finally got a low cost clinic up in reasonable driving distance(40 minutes) the only other one was well over an hour.

Aw, that sucks, Snakeless, but good for you for stepping up to help those poor cats! Don't give up though, you'll get your snake, this isn't the end, just a delay. :)

I have to keep telling myself that! I want a snake NOW but know its defiantly not the right time. Sigh.

Oh, I know that feeling! I'm HORRIBLE at waiting, lol! It'll happen though, and the time always goes by so much faster than we think it will! :)

Glad I'm not alone :D hopefully having a kitten(s) will help the time pass.

Are you SURE the cat couldn't "run out" while you held the door open "accidentally"? Honestly, if you could make that happen, I would pay for the spay so you could get your snake sooner.

I agree, the thought of aborting the kittens is so sad and not something I would condone if I KNEW there were wonderful lives ahead for these babies, but if any of the kittens has the future you are talking about then I would rather have a furbaby angel watching over other abused animals that weren't as lucky.

Mama-hopefully-not-to-be is SO beautiful! What a cutie!

Nope and if she got out she would come right back in....she is used to going outside.

I talked to my mom and if my cousin does decided to send them to the horrible person we will offer to take the litter but ny cousin has to buy the first bag of food. I keep my cats on wet diet but there is no way I could feed 5 plus cats wet that would add up fast!

This is kitten season and they're swamped, but you may be able to find a rescue that would look for homes for the kittens and add them in the books if you can foster them, and at minimum, most rescues buy good quality food in bulk (and collect donations as well) so you could get supplies at a lower cost ir free through them. You may even be able to get them listed with multiple rescues/shelters and take them to some of the meet and greets (which usually do end up placing most of the animals they take) when they're old enough.

You still may end up with them long-term, but there's a much better chance of getting them placed if you go through a good rescue than if you go on your own, and that avoids having to keep what could easily be a half dozen or more cats long-term.

Thank you for caring so much about these babies. Some lucky snake will be going to a good home!

Agree with all of this, especially the last! I know Snakeless from my dog forum, and she is going to make a terrific snake owner! Having to delay getting your snake sucks, but it will make it all the more special when you DO get him or her! Heck, I had to wait 38 years before I got my first snake, LOL!
