Searching for Snakes

I am looking into getting a corn snake and eventually may try to breed later on. I have been searching online and I am feeling hesitant to buy online, due to concerns about the snake itself and shipping prices. Is there anywhere to find a possible breeder or reliable place to buy corn snakes near south eastern South Dakota? Or is it better to buy online?

The breeders on this site are very experienced with shipping, and do an excellent job at making sure the snake gets there overnight and in good condition. You will get quality reptiles from any of the breeders on the list under the for sale thread of breeders. So don't worry too much about snake delivery or quality

As far as shipping price most of mine have cost between $45 (a couple states away and at very most $80 (he was shipped across the country)

Are you looking for a specific kind of corn? That might help the right person find you or visa versa. Maybe there is someone close by SD that breeds. But either way the people here are great and they'll help you find what you are looking for =)

All the best in finding your new baby!

I looked around and noticed a few pet stores sell corn snakes for around 40 dollars, what's your opinion on snakes from large chain pet stores?

Petco especially has a bad rep for selling far too young, unhealthy animals. I imagine other stores "generally" are the same. If you go the pet store route steer clear of big chain stores. Our local small pet store here sells great, healthy corns.
The other down side of going to a pet store is that you are likely to get a "normal" or a snow or something which won't breed anything really special.
(only mentioning this because you mentioned you wanted to breed someday)

If you buy from a breeder they are soo much more knowledgable, you get better quality, and you are more likely to find a really good specimen for later breeding purposes. You do pay more, but you get what you pay for. In my experience anyway.

I vote you get in touch with Brent

last thing you want is to be producing normals, amels and anerys. They're basic morphs and the least desirable - try and go for the gold and produce something a little more marketable. I'm just mentioning that becasue that's likely all you'll find at a pet store. Figure out your plan first, find out what's selling, what you like, and what you need to produce it.

Use the search function to check out a breeder on the BOI. It's a lot of is wank and drama but some posts are just big long "this guy was great" threads. Go for one of those guys.

And don't be too afraid of shipping, just go with someone experienced with some sort of live-arrival guarantee.
