signs of a fat cornsnake?

my fiancee and I have a 3 year old cornsnake- its about 3.5 ft long, and im having some concerns about its appearance- she frankly looks "fat".
weve gradually increased the size of her meals over the years- pinky, 2 pinky, fuzzy, fuzzy+pinky, hopper, hopper +pinky, hop+fuz, mouse, mouse+pinky, mouse+fuzzy, 2 small mice,
we now feed her two mice a week. she has no problem getting them down or passing them out apparantly, but she really looks, well, fat.

really, really stupid question-
can a cornsnake get fat?

Yes cornsnakes can get fat and it is very unhealthy for them. If you could post a picture more people would be able to help you.

I feed my adult corns 1 adult mouse a week so if you think yours is getting fat cutting her down to one mouse every 7-10 would probably be better.

i cant seem to get tinypic to work so i attached 2 images of her from my cell- one of them shows the serious "rolls" shes got when curled up (i know all snakes get a little bit of this but this is pretty extreme), and a comparison of her head to her body.
she hasnt eaten since last sunday, btw so this is her "unfed" stomach view.

Signs of a fat corn snake? That's easy, it is when you find an empty " Krispy Kreme" doughnut box in his/her hide!! :D

That's an extremely obese snake. Considering you've been giving her two mice a week, it isn't surprising. I'd actually go down less than was previously suggested. Try one mouse every 2 weeks. Even that might be more than I would do here if I suddenly acquired that snake - we have some that only get a mouse every 3 weeks or so. That twice a month feeding for MANY months is the best thing you can do for your snake right now. Expect the snake to lose weight very, very slowly. Once3 she looses a little weight, you'll likely see some fat deposits (back third of the body on the sides) become more prominent. These may never go away. It'll be unattractive, but that's to be expected. She'll be healthier once she drops some of the excess fat even though you can't get it all to go away. Expect her to start wandering looking for food after a while. That's GOOD since it means exercise! If she isn't doing that, it is a sign she was overfed in the first place....lol. Don't give in after a month or two - sticking her to a reduced caloric diet is best for her!

Oh, and do NOT try to breed a snake that obese. Dystocia would be VERY likely, and that can easily cause death.

Well that is a fattie! But excercise and a lower food regimine I think will help! I am no expert tho

I had a fatty snake at one time and had to put him on a sort of "snake watchers" diet. I didn't care to spread out his feedings too far since my kids handled him a lot and I didn't want him to get nippy. Instead I fed him mice just bigger than hoppers every 2 weeks for quite a while. He did get more active as he searched for food and became much healthier looking and acting. His color even seemed to improve as his scales came closer together and less stretched skin showed in between. He never did quite lose the soft belly, though.

Yikes, she is a bit on the heavy side. And yes corns and ANYTHING that eats can get fat.. unless its a human with a crazy metabolism

Yeah, cut down to a mouse every 7-10 days and let her get some exercise - let her explore a safe room or let her swim in your bathtub (filled about an inch or two high and the correct temp, which is about 80 F)

she'll be healthy in no time :] very pretty snake nontheless.

I agree with KJUN to cut down to one mouse every 2 weeks, this is based on my personal experience with a 'big' corn over the last 10 years.

My snake is one of those that broke the mould quite literally, he is seriously thick and all muscle I hasten to add, but he would be seriously obese if I fed one mouse a week. Crazy hey? He gets one jumbo mouse every 2 weeks and he is still enormous - I weighed him yesterday morning and he is somewhere between 1200g and 1300g (my scales are sadly no more accurate that that!).

I'm sure you'll see an improvement in your girl very soon and hopefully losing weight will make her more active too :)
