I read in the morph FAQ thread that bloodred + charcoal = pewter.
My question is, is it that simple? Do I just have to get a bloodred and a charcoal and breed them and i'll get a few pewters? or do they have to be het for something? I put in the corn calculator diffused + charcoal and it didn't say anything about a pewter. Sorry, I'm new to this.
 
Most corn morphs are simple recessive, which means each animal must have *2* copies to show the trait. They can only get 2 copies if each parent provides 1 copy.

So a bloodred to a charcoal will give you all normal looking offspring het for diffused and charcoal. This is because the bloodred has a diffused gene to offer, but no charcoal, and the charcoal has a charcoal gene to off, but no diffused. Thus, there is nothing than can 'match up' in the offspring.
 
To be a pewter a snake has to have 2 copies of each gene. Diffused x Charcoal will get you all normal babies that each have one copy of each gene. Normals het Diffused and het Charcoal.

If you breed those babies back to each other later, approximately 1/16 of the resulting offspring will be peewters.
 
Just to mention, the corn calculator will give you the correct results but will not supply you with the trade name of a gene combination. For example, "pewter" will be called charcoal diffuse, "ghost" will be hypo anery, "opal" will be amel lavender, etc.

Statistically (i.e. it still might not work out like this in real life) a quarter of the hatchlings would be Pewter.
 
Thanks! also, it said that a pewter bred to a pewter will only give you pewters. I thought the wild type is always present, so could i also get normals from that pairing?

A pewter X pewter pairing can only give you pewter offspring since both parents only have charcoal and diffuse genes to give to the offspring. Most corn snake morphs are the result of simple recessive genes. The wild type gene is dominant when only one recessive gene is present in heterozygous form. It takes a pair of recessive genes for the phenotype to be expressed.
