Siren: 08 Sorong chondro progression!

Oh crap... Robbie I fed her tonight and forgot to get pictures. She was sitting with her tail on her head the last few nights, wiggling and luring looking for foods. It was adoreable...

AWEE..sounds sooo cute...
I acn't wait to get one..I may be able to this spring..we want to wait for this winter to be over...last inter was bad, as we ran out of iol many times..I just want to be safe..

Yup I am super worried about her this winter, it's already been 60f in the rep room at some point (I use a max/min digi thermometer in the room at all times). But she has hair heating, under box heating and I have a strip along the back of the rack shes in to just keep it around 75 ambient. The lowest temp recorded in her box is 74f so perfect really...

Oh I forgot I did actually take pictures last night (found them whilst tidying my picture folders, I take that many I never remember LOL)... I was trying to get some shots of her mouth just to check if she had an RI. I heard a wee clicky the last time she was eating, but then I hear a lot of snakes click when the eat. I'm just being paranoid. It looks pink and healthy and fine. I think...

Excuse the hugeness of these shots...

I always thought the clicking from eating was from bones breaking in the mouse.

I'm loving Siren, she's getting plenty of green.

I think it's probably just the gasping for breath and the opening and closing of the windpipe. And perhaps the moisture of the prey item... I dunno. I'll try to get some more pictures of her mouth next time I feed her and just keep an eye on her. There shouldn't be any problems, her environment is an absolute optimum. She likes it on the warm side ie 86-87.

I keep it at 82 on the warm side and mine do just fine Elle. She could be getting ready to shed again also. They get odd noises when it gets around that time. I know she just shed, but they generally will shed every 30 days or so when they are that small.

Her cool end sits at around 78, and she sits there all the time when shes in shed or a few days after eating. Apart from that she hugs the heat. It's actually at 85 the now and shes all coiled up digesting her moosicle. Her breeder suggested keeping her at 86-88 but I found she never sat at the warm end when it was that high. He also suggested to never let her ambient drop below 80 but again she seemed uncomfortable. A couple of degrees down either way and shes fine :) Pooping and feeding well, like a healthy chondro should.

She did look a wee bit dull, but its too difficult to tell on chondros. I just hope her next shed goes ok.

I know most of the books also say 86, but after seeing the results of thermal scans, where the snake's body was actually reaching temps of 90 when the heat was at 86, I dropped it down to 82. I've seen a marked difference in activity and feeding response. They all spend more time crawling around and they eat better. I feed rather infrequently though so it's probably also a factor as well. They still spend much of their time on the cool side, so I don't think they really prefer the high temps. The only time they spend any consistant time on the warm side, is at shed time.

I'm slow to find this thread, but my goodness, Elle, she is beeeeauuutiful. I just MUST have one!

*starts saving pennies now*

Thats interesting to read :) Steve (her breeder) was adament she was to be kept no lower than 80. Which I thought was a bit high. Shes at 85, and I think I would rather keep it there since my rep room drops to around 68-70 at night. Although her box never drops below 74. With winter approaching I really don't want to be lowering temperatures at the moment :(

How often do you feed your babies? I feed Siren once every 10 days. She poops after the second meal, like clockwork. I would only let her have two meals before not feeding her until she had pooped anyway....
