Snake Talk

Do you know if it's a tropical or a hardy lily? Hardy lilies can overwinter _easily_ in the pond. Tropicals are borderline in my zone, 8B I think. I sink them down to the bottom and hope for the best. They make little heaters, too. Or heated pots. Or you can let it go dormant in the fall and bring in and keep in shallow water until your outdoor water temp is warm again.

Nanci the tab says "hardy waterlily". It freezes here in the winter I have some other pond plant that stays alive but dies way back during winter. We have to cover our fruit trees and put fucshias in green house.

I think they need liquid water, not solid ice. I would bring it in, then, and keep cool and dark. When I did it, I just put them in their pots in a Sterilite bin.

now u r accualy forgetting the rules of the forum
by on topic i meant about snakes and your talking about waterlillies

Oh! no wandering snarky remarks, not from anyone I know.
Back to snake talk ssso I was in the garden the other day and we saw 4 garters al headed in the same direction. Guessing there was a female under a nearby storage shed. Speaking of garden Beth we have tomatoes one on at least every tomato plant. The weather had been very warm, but today raining, windy and thunder. We also picked about a gallon of strawberries.
Nanci, I got a waterlily, but we have different advice on what to with it in the winter some said leave in pond, some said put in greenhouse in tub of water.
Sorry no pics yet maybe tomorrow.
ya know, it's funny you should mention that. i was in the garden the other day and saw the black racers, hadn't seen any since last year, but I guess it's finally hot enough for them to all be out again, and with all these plants around here, there's loads of habitat for the lizards, so the snakes are all big and healthy.
If you lift a waterlily tuber in the autumn and put it in a ziplock baggy with some moss that is about as well wrung out as if you were using the moss for a nest box or incubation, and pop it in the refrigerator not the freezer over winter, it should be just fine. I've also experimented with just letting them dry out over winter in the garage (where it never freezes but stays dry and cool) and they spring back to growth when replanted the following year.

One time when I was little and my dad was playing softball, my brother and I got bored, so we started playing in the red ant hill. My brother got ants in his pants, he did not do the boogie dance (despite the theory) but he did start getting bit. He had to take off his pants and ride home in just his tighty whities. True story.

ps I have an aunt that does not like snakes.

You ever notice how when a tv show or movie takes place in the future, everyone is wearing the same jumpsuit? When does this happen? Did the government take a vote? Was there a reality show to win the rights to produce the last article of clothing ever?

The future is not only terrific, its bright...so bright ya gotta wear shades...

My daughters snake is named Timmy.

I'm pretty sure this whole forum in all of it's entirety is for posting stories experiences and pictures about snakes.
