Snakes in Limbo :(

Sounds like you were really prepared for everything except handling your own finances.

There was no need to say that! Things happen in life, you are not always prepared for everything. I am 34 yrs old and still have times when I miscalculate my finances!

I honestly think she is doing really good for being 20 yrs old!

And you're the standard to which responsibility should be compared to?

Always, always, ALWAYS have a reserve. A rainy day fund. Extra money that can carry you in case something unexpected happens. This is how you prepare for things. Not by spending all your money.

I just turned 22, live on my own, attend school full time, and play college athletics. I want a lot of things. I shop smart and only buy something that I need, unless I am 120% sure that I can afford it. I've been doing that for a long time now. Being 20 years old isn't an excuse because she's an adult, and sorry, time to act like it.

I'm sorry you, at 12 years my senior, cannot calculate your finances well. Many people in the US have the same problem (look at the average person's credit card debt). It is something that I wold expect someone to pick up relatively quickly.

OP, to be honest, I hope you don't get the money for the snake(s). I hope the seller finds someone else to buy them. I hope that this is a lesson to you. It will be much more valuable for your future than some animals.

Vliberatore I am glad that you can budget your money and that you do all the things you do. I really hope life doesnt throw you that curve ball out of the left field and you fall short on anything. But I still don't think it gives you the right to put other people down or hope the worst for them JMHO

They're Home!

Despite your negativity, things worked themselves out. I saved for months to maybe buy something nice for myself and was already in the deal when life knocked me out of my wheelchair (Yes, I said "Wheelchair", in polite society your above words might be considered bullying, thats the problem with judging people you've never met with a pinhole lens). We can't all be amazing at life every single moment.

"Some animals" are more important to me than all the money in this world, they are the sole reason get up in the morning, truly I could live without everything else I have, I merely consider myself lucky that I don't have to. Caring for my pets is the one activity in life that I excel in, and I pity you for being unable to understand that because you have a normal, working, able bodied life and can do everything and adapt as you need to to get where you want to go in life. Some of us have to take a detour.

And please remember, karma is a swinging door. You cannot prepare for Everything.

(If you need to confirm about the disability issue, to prove I'm not a faker, I would be happy to give you the usernames of two upstanding people on this forum who have met me in person).

Sierra1167, beautifullywild77. You are wonderful, supportive friends. :) You are the reason why I stay on this forum. I appreciate that I can enjoy loving my pets with likeminded beings. :D <3
I can't even explain how much your well wishing helped during this rough patch. Things are looking positive again.

What the?
And at 18 I was a tank crew member, and soon after, a commander.
I also managed to work full time, complete a diploma, complete my BA, and provide for myself since I finished my service at 21(26 now)... how does that have -anything- to do with what another person is going through? Am I somehow better because of that? Heck no.

Life -will- teach you that they are stronger than any plan you may make, and mistakes are one of the few things I can guarantee you will make.

It saddens me to see that we can be so insensitive and actually wish someone to lose money and the prospect of getting much anticipated animals only for the sake of making a point.

Life definitely -can- be harsh towards us when we make mistakes... there's really no good reason to become cynical towards others when it happens to them.

I am so happy for you Lumene! I am glad the scalebabies have found their forever home. I know they will be well cared for and very well loved! :D

I am glad you were able to get the snakes Lumen. I am sorry for my fellow US citizen being a jerk towards you.

Oren, like always your words reflect wisdom beyond your years.

Vliboratore, there are things in this world that no amount of planning can save you from. Your actions within this thread have shown that you have a whole lot of growing up to do.
Lesson number one should be to treat others with the respect that you expect them to give you.

I am 25, served in the military for 4 years and 2 months as Explosive Ordnance Disposal. I am a full time student, provide for my wife, 7 snakes, 3 turtles, a dog, a 5 gallon fresh water tank, and a 29 gallon salt water tank. There are times when I fudge the budget, or life throws a hard ball at me. Like right now.
I am on the Post 9-11 GI Bill, and thanks to our government my budget has been shot to crap. Luckily I have been in tight spaces before, and have a landlord that is extremely understanding.
I really do not understand why I am telling this to a 22 year old, but you really need to learn how to respect others. This is something that I usually tell the 15-18 year olds that come on here with an attitude.

Outcast, dont you just love how the Post 9/11 bill changed how they pay you. We have been short a few times because of it as well! Life is life. Spent a whole lot of years as a single mom. Now I am disabled and we live on a fixed budget. I knew excately where Lumene was coming from.

Again Lumene, I applaud you for what you do for our reptile friends!

Yeah, I love how when money gets tight in D.C. The first people they go after are Military, Veterans, and Public Schools.... I can't stand that they keep the fat checks, but give everyone else the shaft... It's not like military members don't get the shaft anyways when it comes to annual bonus's.

I read all of your posts yesterday between my classes and I am glad I had a break because I cried. I am so happy to be a part of this forum, you don't even know how you all made my day.

Also, you don't have to apologize for another's opinion, there are people like that here too, except here I may accidentally lose control of my wheelchair when I get mocked and flustered, a wheelchair colliding with shins and calves can be painful, but it brings people to my level. Luckily my campus and the important people in my life take me seriously and its only the general public I have to worry about.

Here in Canada, Income Assistance does offer to help students with housing requirements, but for me to have qualified I would have to leave my two year relationship with my boyfriend, because he lives with me and helps with expenses- Somehow giving up one of the most stable people in my life for a steady cheque isn't worth it. (I found this out yesterday talking with student loans, they were appealing to IA on my behalf. If we were married this would have been a non issue).

All three of the new kids are in quarentine, when they're a little less fiesty I will have pictures up (Ramsay is 6' of PO'ed gopher after being flipped owner to owner).

Cazien, one of the BRB's, has his very own sugar momma (when my best friend met him, she fell in love, he will be her third snake thanks to me) after his quarentine and pending her landlords reply he could be going home with her. If not, she has offered to pay a boarding fee plus mice and substrate. :) Since she already helped pay for him I think he's got it made with her, if she absolutely needs to rehome him (or her other snakes) he'll come straight back to me.

I would also like to add, that while there are great reptile owners and breeders in my province, the ones who know what they are doing are outnumbered by newbies who don't have a clue. I took these guys on from a friend who asked for help, not some ad on craigslist. If it Had fallen through I would have been viewing them from the front window of a pet store (they were boarded in the back of one for awhile! While the owner was moving, it was a bit awkward to be mistaken for staff...)

Again, I am proud to be a member of this forum and to know that you care... it just blows my mind to try and think of a way to thank you all for following this and empathizing with the position I was in, hopefully it doesn't have to happen again. :D

Awe Lumene, there really is no need to thank us! We saw someone that was in need of moral support and saw someone who was being emotionally vicious with no need to do so. We just did what we felt was right! Opinions are like.... well you know the rest of that statment! Good jujus you way toots!

Some one needs to come down off their high horse before they fall.

You sound to me like a kid who has not had to endure tough times. You have no right to judge, and judge you have. Some day you will understand that you cannot see every thing from your little point of view on this big world. You do not know every little event going on in other peoples lives, especially ones you only know from a forum that you may frequent. Neither you or I or any one else for that matter have any excuse to act in any way you have acted towards the OP. There was no need to be immature and act as if you are so much better and treat some one else as if they are dog crawp under your shoe.

Congratulations!

Glad it worked out ok! You sound like you are on track to coping with life, and with the curve balls it throws to you!

To vliberatore: I am more than twice your age, and STILL can't live up to your high standards, lol! I congratulate you on your financial abilities, but unfortunately, some of us will never be quite as self disciplined as you evidently are at such a young age. Even so, I feel I have led an interesting and fulfilling life so far. I have been able to (usually) to do work I enjoy, live in decent places, get by financially, even if barely squeaking by at times, and most of all, I have lots and lots of friends and relatives with whom I enjoy great relationships, and share respect, both from and towards them.

I, too, have had plenty of "curve balls" over the years, including a chaotic childhood spent partly in foster homes, and moving from place to place as a child and teenager, raised by a single dad. But it has been possible to have a great life even for somebody as imperfect as I am, lol!

I often think that I have enjoyed my life and relationships BECAUSE of some of the difficulties that I endured, rather than IN SPITE of them. Years of living in the "School of Hard Knocks" have helped me to empathize with others on their own life journey - better than a more "perfectly" controlled life would have allowed - IMHO, of course. I only hope that, with time, you will be able to appreciate the varied ways that others will use to make their own way in the world, roads which may or may not work better for them than your own method is working for you. Each person has to learn the best way to work within the limits and resources available to him or her at the moment. And most will get better at it with practice and age.

Good luck to both of you on whatever journey your own life takes you!
