So how should I give notice?

How should I leave my current position?

I guess i am the exception. I voted the heck with them. and since you have a new job lined up. i say burn that bridge :flames: been screwed over enough. I am self employed and get burned a fair amount of times by people who say they will be there and dont show. i even had a guy call me to tell me he is running late. wait around for an hour only to figure out that he isnt showing. :shrugs: I would rather someone just speak up , rather than playing games.

What I was going to say about going with 2 weeks has already been said...rise above, be the better man...and hopefully they'll show you the door anyway. =)

LOL! I voted just go. I had a problem like this before (for a large company :/ safeway - not a good idea with large companies as you later find). I worked in the bakery, and therefore had like 16 managers (the store manager, the floor manager, the bakery manager etc). One day I WAS SCHEDULED to work by myself, which I had done befre,, and which I had np with. But this time, I was not allowed to take a lunch. I had problems with the store manager a lot before this, but she went off on me about how it was my responsibility to make sure someone was there to cover the bakery, and that there was just no way I could leave. I told 'er I had nothing to do with sheduling, and was starving (I worked 12 hour days, and only got paid for 8 but thats a different story, a labor board story). Anyway, I was so fed up with the crud I had been dealing with her for months, *since she transfered in basically* I just went on my lunch anyway, ate in front of the store and then drove home to never return.

So, if you feel it necessary make your move. If you put in your two weeks and she doesn't take it then yes you are a better person for that I am sure (but don't go in there thinking shes not going to take your 2 week notice, cause that might bite you in the behind if you planned not to work anyway).

I hope this story helps, I am really tired so I also hope it makes sense. And good luck with whatever you do.

I say the standard two weeks - however I also think that if she asks you why, you tell her EXACTLY why... in great detail.

The Game Plan

Well, after mulling it over, I intend to do essentially what Kathy Love has mentioned - my current employer will get (and imagine my doing the "finger quotes" as you read this) """two weeks notice""" from me, and since I'm currently """part time""", that translates to one week of work. Since my new employer wants me to start ASAP, I'll target 4/21 as my start date.

If I'm shown the door, :shrugs: . If she gets desperate, I intend on telling her that since I'm currently """contractor status""", I'd be more than happy to continue to provide work during my """off hours""" - with a SIGNED contract from her that I'll be happy to provide.

As previously stated, I don't intend, nor desire, to get a reference from her. None of the 6 people who have gone through the door since I started there last May have done so......and rightly so.

regards,
jazz

Way to go--you got the right plan, man!

PS--I grew up listening to Urbie Green--does that count as 'jazz'?
