Soda, Pop, or Coke What do you drink?

Well, Carol, if one were to say to one's mother, sister, brother, significant other, hey, let's go get a coke...then that means it could be anything carbonated. One won't know for sure precisely what kind of "soda/cola" until one gets there and decides.

But as the years have gone by, I think we are more specific. Sometime (in the 80's, maybe) they stopped asking what kind and if you said coke without thinking, then a Coca-Cola is what you got. I 'think' that is what later prompted drive-thrus to now ask "what flavor drink would you like, sir/ma'am?"

Pops is a friendly term of endearment for an elderly man, white or often black. I have probably never said the word "pop" in my life. In fact, I will pay $10 to the first person, here or in Daytona, who can trick me into saying something so out of character as the word "pop".
I might even buy them a coke. But I will ask them what kind they'd like beforehand. ;)

BK and Wendy's have the best DP...Taco Bell is the worst. It's very odd that they taste different at all. I prefer 20oz bottles over cans and fountain...

They taste different because each food place has a different mixture that is supposed to go better with the food they serve. Same with if you go to a different country and get a dr pepper. They have a different mixture that tastes better to the native taste buds.

For example : Wade's joke was so funny that it made Nanci snort coke out of her nose.
But what make it even funnier is that it was a Grape Nehi.

Those soda spigots on the soda machines get really mildewy if you don't clean them often. My first job was working for a hot dog joint. We had to clean the spigots weekly. I wonder if other places do....

Before my trip to Ohio, I never heard anyone say "pop" outside a 50's movie. CA sheltered I guess. ;) We can be in our own little world over here.

I know.....
Now that I think of it, I might say "popping" regarding snakes, so that doesn't count.

I guess in the south "coke" has/had a generic meaning like "beer".

I don't drink much in the way of carbonated drinks, but I usually call them all sodas.
I don't either. I almost never drink soft drinks. And I don't know why.

But I wasn't being negative about "pop". I think that with the internet, and in forums (in the loosest sense of the word) like this, has arisen a broader more universal awareness by which will likely evolve a more uniform, consensual spoken and written vernacular.

whoa, shows what I know. I thought all Americans said "soda"! All the ones I know do, anyway.

Up in Canada it's "pop".

Hey Eric, what does the water in corn do to the corn when it is heated in hot oil?

What kind of corn am I talking about?
