Somethings is very wrong with My Corn Snake..

What started happening yesterday. I do not know what has happened to My corn,Yesterday all of a sudden she went into like a freak mode, She was rolling a round and biting every where, Almost like She was fighting for Her life against a predator. She finally stopped and laid there for about a hour w/ Her mouth open. Now her mouth is closed but like every hour or 2 she just starts freaking out again biting in the air , tank and lid.. It is almost like She lost Her sight. Has anyone heard of this or know what is wrong? I hate to see Her so scared and freaking out.. She is 5 y/o. Any help would be great.. Thank You..

That's a definite vet trip. Sounds like a seizure or something.

Not sure if you saw the pot about her freaking out after eating, but it is very, very likely that she is having neurological issues from being over heated.

Please get the heat rock out and check the temperature in the cage, with a digital thermometer. I agree that a vet trip is in order, immediately.

I checked and one end it 86 and other end 74 so she isn't over heated at all.. She is in a 30 gal tank so can get away from the heat. She hasn't eaten for 5 days now.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNd9ITpJwxc this is a lil like what happens to her but 10 times worse

Hi, I replied to a post you made about your snake freaking out.
I then noticed on another thread that you said you have lots of heat.

Your snake is probably having a seizure from too much heat like the one in this video:

Corn snakes only need 85°F tops. You need to get your temps steady at 83-85 on the hot side and 73-75 on the cool side.

You should also take your snake into the vet, neurological problems are very serious, especially if it is cause by heat.

I know for sure it wasn't over heating.. It looks like that in a way but when She goes into one Her mouths wide open and like trying to bite. Then she settles down and just lays still until She flips out again in a hour or so.. She is in a 30 Gal tank w/ heat on one side and nothing on the other..

Do you know your temps?
Snakes can't tell when their underside is burning, so she could very well be sitting on her heat rock too long and it's hurting her.

I'm not too experienced of a keeper, but it sounds like severe neurological issues, and those don't just pop up in an adult snake without environmental issues.
Hopefully someone more experienced can chime into your thread.

I still stand by heat issues, if there is no thermostat/dimmer on your heat rock or lamp, it's definitely above 100F.

I check w/ Therm that are always in the tanks and w/ a digital therm as well. I just checked both sides of Her tank. One side is 84 and other side is like 74.

Does your heat rock have a probed thermometer, or are you just measure air temps with a stick-on analog thermometer?


The only other thing I could think of causing seizures like this would be if your snake ingested a mouse that had eaten something poisonous.


Either way, you should really see a vet, people on a forum can only do so much.

Just did, it is reading 79. I check the temps on all of the rocks every time I change their cages.. They have a cool side and a warm side.. Each are in 30 gal tanks , so plenty of room to remove from heat to cool..

Snakes are cold blooded, so they could sit on that rock and burn themselves and not know it.

I know that Cat. She isn't even on her rock. she goes into them any where she is in the cage.. I have looked her over head to toe many times and see nothing wrong w/ her..

First temps were 86, then 84, now 79?

What kind of thermometer are you using on the heat rock? Without a thermostat, those things can, and will reach over 140F... that's the minimum safe heat something should be when cooking.

Regardless, the snake needs to be seen by a vet, to address the problem, then address the husbandry issue (or whatever is causing this).

I know you want the best for them, but the rock MAY be the cause of them.

The heating rocks can cause seizures, that is what everyone is getting at.
The way heat rocks are made causes their temperatures to vary wildly. They may read at 85 on one side, and well over 100 on another.

I can't see it being that Cat, My Vet knows I use rocks and has never said not to use them.. I just feel so bad for her when she goes into one. it breaks My heart thinking of maybe losing her.

Are all of the rocks heated/plugged in? If not, then I don't see a need to remove them.
If they are heated/plugged in, then I would recommend remiving all of those.
