stun mice

Couldn't do it myself!

Sorry, couldn't kill a mouse to feed to a snake, I would end up looking after the mouse as well!!!! f/t are definately the way to go. Must admit it would be cool to see the snake actually using its body to constrict, but the shrieks from the mouse would be too much. BTW MADMAN, love the picture, what do you call that type of corn, she looks exactly like mine and I was just wondering. Cheers

I just don't see the point in live feeding unless ABSOLUTLY necessary, like a problem hatchling but even then feeding for just a short period is usually only whats required, like 4-5 feeds..

Princess and evilrix, well said.

Adamscorn, i keep gerbils and hamsters, and just couldn't feed them to the snake, same might go for mice but i havn't kept mice.

well the way we learned to dispose of mice in lab to kill them is to essential snap their neck. take a pencil and put it behind its head hold it down and yank the tail. mouse will be dead and in my opinion daze a mouse no matter how you do it is equally cruel all around ( not that i personally have a problem with it) but stunning is stunning and the mouse is going to think it sucks either way and it will hurt either way. if it is against a wall or with the back of a butcher knife it is going to hurt it.

CornFan...the dog in that pic would make a nice meal for my burmese Python...maybe we should discuss how to stun that lol.

It is apparent that your temporary ban from this website didn't stun you. Maybe it should be made permanent........."lol"

Yours truly,

bud :poke:

Hmm. I second that emotion. Like most folks, I feed thawed. If I have a stubborn feeder, I offer live (don't stun) because the movement seems to trigger the feeding response. When I do need to kill a mouse, a hard thump in the back of the head seems to work quickly.

If you feed f/t and want your snake to constrict, try tease feeding. Hold the mouse with a pair of hemostats and move the mouse as the snake approaches. If it still hasn't constricted when it starts eating, give a few tugs while its trying to eat. This almost always worked when I wanted them to constrict.

That is just ridiculous and totally uncalled for :devil01:

I agree with you Cav, maybe we should "discuss" how to stun Packerfan into silence with Rich..........

Clarification

Sorry if I led people to believe I stun mice by using the blunt side of the butchers knife, that's the method I used to use to kill them. That's what I meant by how I 'dispatch' the mice. The 5 seconds of kicking and jaw movement afterwards is caused by the spinal cord being severed. I don't believe in just giving the mouse a concussion before live feeding either.

Where's that petition going around to get Packerfan 'dispatched'? :p

Absolutely - right after we've discussed when your penis implant is happening.

This has been an absolutely HILARIOUS thread...
Heck, CAV had me rolling on the first PAGE with this one...

Tell them that you're a cross-dresser or that you open-mouth kissed a horse once. :)

And of course I am STILL chuckling about this one.

I feed frozen thawed to everything I can...I currently don't have any (thank God) that will only eat live...but when I have...I take them by the tail and whack em on the side of the glass tank. This knocks them out pretty good, like Packer said...I actually had a years ago who had a fairly large Burmese Python...it would ONLY eat live MOVING rodents and rabbits...now, mind you, this was a big EVIL guy...but he would actually pull the front teeth out of the rats and rabbits with PLIERS before feeding his snake to lower the chances of his snake being injured. This was before the internet was what it is today (back in the days of IRC chat)...and frozen rodents were NOT readily available...but this snake wouldn't eat it unless it was alive and walking. This is seriously hard core...I doubt I could have done this personally...especially after having witnessed it a couple of times. CO2 is probably the must humane way to euthanize mice for feeding...but if your reptiles are eating Prekilled...might as well feed frozen and reduce the risk of the mice passing any diseases or parasites on to your snake.

In the current copy of "Something About Corns" there is a great article by Cheryl Marchek about building your own CO2 chamber.

OK, let's tone it down, please. I have already "limboed" someone here...
