Congrats Walter on an amazing hatchling! When I first read your post, I was also thinking "Don't jump to the conclusion that they are in fact stargazers!" At least wait until you see what else hatches before making that call. What was the temperature during incubation? Any heat spikes that you know of?
 
Congrats on hitting the odds Walter! Hope future testing prove this one to be clean. Beautiful animal, I want to see a post shed pic too. :cheers:

Now that it has been mentioned, it's crossed my mind as well. Out of a 21 egg clutch, it's just the one. There are just a couple more that still need to emerge. I did have a heat spike of about 90 degrees, but it was caught within a couple hours and has been closely monitored since.

The thing about this guy is that he does not do the flipping twisting thing you see in a gazer, but he does have a head wobble, kinda like you see in the Spider Ball Pythons AND I took him out and layed him completely on his back and he staying that way. Actually made some movement it that postition as well.

I have a couple homo gazers here and he does not resemble their movements, especially the twisting corkscrew movement.

Interesting. I had that clutch of hypo plasmas last year, which Krinkle came from, and the rest of the clutch were deformed DIEs. It was retained sperm from the previous year. Well, there was a second clutch of those, with one hatchling who made it out, who at first seemed normal. But he didn't move right. He didn't flip over or look like gazers I've seen video of, but he had a head wobble and was just very strange. He never ate and was euthed.
 
Amazing animal! Too bad gazer popped up in that lineage :(

Had a heart breaker too last year, when Hypoblood het Sunkissed Anery x Piedsided het Hypo Sunkissed Anery hatched out. Got a NEAT! Piedsided Hypoblood ph sunkissed anery and similar fun stuff....and gazer popped up too. Was not fun to introduce that clutch to Lampropeltis.

Fingers crossed your little stunner doesn't carry the trait!!!
 
As we talked in private buddy. I feel your pain. Where is the place to stay for the repticon show? Looks like I will make it for Saturday! Finally get to met some of the folks. Are you vending? Do you know if anyone else from the forum will be vending?

Yeah, Im still going to treat this as a gazer find because I don't want to brush it off as something caused by the heat spike and it actually be the gazer trait.

I'm wondering if there are different levels of the gazer condition being displayed. Could one gazer be more extreme than another?? :shrugs:

I would have much better piece of mind approching it that way.

There were 21 eggs total, 20 eggs hatched and fully emerged and still only the 1 odd ball out of the 20.

So sorry to hear that man. We are staying at the Clarion right by the airport. It's the only hotel I've stayed at before and is pretty nice.

We stayed on time at some mom & pop place in the city, but that wasn't a very good experience. Just go to hotels.com and fill in the info needed and you can check them out.

So there's another clutch with the same sire, right? If there are no gazers in that clutch- then what?? Well, you don't know if that mom was het gazer, so it proves nothing if there are none.

Wow- what a situation to have to deal with.

I guess you could breed both of these parents to homo gazers next season. You _should_ get a definitive answer as to is the baby exhibiting stargazing, or has an unrelated neurological problem for whatever reason.

I took in a clutch of eggs last year that had hit a temp spike, & the clutch didn't look very good, but one did hatch & did have the movements that you describe. The breeder took the baby & initially didn't think the baby would make it, but several months later, I went over & saw the baby & she is developing just fine.
I would give it time & watch the little worm. Hopefully he/she will end up just fine.

He's very gorgeous otherwise.

I'm hoping so, but then I start feeling not so right if I think that's it. I definatly don't want to put it off as that and it actually be a gazer.

I will have piece of mind testing and knowing for sure, ya know what I mean.

I do plan to hold onto it so I'll be able to see if there are any changes for the better as it grows, providing it does feed.............LOL
