I See Snakes...
Though our breeders are few, we still think they are special in thier own way and I wanted to give them a bit of attention as we get them ready for this years season. They are a bit thin, having been in brumation for a little while now, but they should easily start bulding up their form once they finish warming up properly (1st post brummation feeding being scheduled for this coming friday). I wasn't going to take pics tonight, but they were so calm when I was checking their water that I went ahead and spent a few minutes with them.

First up is our First Lady, Pearl the 2004 or 2003 snow... She succesfully bred for us last year, producing 10 healthy hatchlings.

The pics are a bit overexposed and she looks a tad washed out, but I'm working on my technique for taking pics of amels and snows. I hope to have better pictures after her first feeding of the year.

Next up is Charcoal, an early 2004 ghost/anery girl. This will be her first breeding and we'll be monitoring her weight gain and health prior to hooking her up with her beau just to be sure she's ready. I'm certain she'll be up to par, but don't want to take needless risks.

Here she is:

One more for this post. This little man, Opal, is an 04 snow from Kathy Love who will be paired with Charcoal. It's his first breeding this year as well, and we chose him because we wanted to prove out some hets that one or both might be carrying. Charcoal is supposed to be a ghost and Opal could be het hypo. We'll also be able to confirm that Charcoal is indeed Anery A and determine if she is het amel.

Here he is:

Not the best pic, but I have the same trouble with him as I do with Pearl, but I hope to get some better ones later this week.

Up next, Granite the 2005 Aztec...

Jenn

Now, I admit that I take more pics of Granite then I do of some of our other older corns. I can't help it, he fascinates me and his pattern is so captivating! Our lucky PetCo find of 2005, we'd hoped he was female right up until the day I probed him and discovered that he was indeed male. *sigh*

On the upside, that means he got drawn in the lottery to pair up with our First Lady, Pearl. There won't be any fancy morphs popping out of this clutch, not even any really special hets. Though, that doesn't really bother us as we are looking to find out if this big boy is het amel and/or anery. We are also hoping that the two of them will throw off some nice parital Aztecs or zig-zags, though I know with the zig-zag/Aztec trait is sort of hit and miss.

So, without any further blathering from me, here is the Ham of the House, Granite...

And lastly, a pic of him that I couldn't resist altering in Photoshop.

Granite is just amazing. I wuv him.
*WAG* Thnx! We wuv him too! lol... I couldn't believe we actually found him at PetCo... I was blown away that any breeder would let a guy like him go wholesale - his pattern is broken up from head to tail, not a single regular saddle on him!

When he feeds this Friday I'm going to try and get some updated full body shots of him, just to show off that spectacular pattern of his!

Jenn

Here are a couple of pics of him when he was younger, just so you can see the difference in size and color from when he first brought him home.

And a comparison set that I took early last year, was created in Feb 2006 actually...

Wow...Granite is one spectacular beast. I can see why he is King of your Castle. He is simply awesome...

Charcoal the Anery A, Opal the snow, and Granite the aztec? Am I the only one who would find these confusing? LOL :grin01:

Pretty snakes, I love the aztec. Can't believe you found him at Petco! I got Steve there, but all I've seen lately is amels and snows.

Yes, but see, I named them long before I discovered there were other morphs besides amel, anery, snow, and normal... otherwise I'd have been a tad more careful of how I named them. So, I always try to list thier morph with their names in case anyone gets confused! lol

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments!

Jenn

Why the hell did the breeder let Granite go to a pet shop?! Must have been a msitake....

Are you making a habbit of confusing us with using morph names for snakes that are not homozygous for it? ;)

Seems confusing, but the names started long before we delved so deep into corns.. Of course by that time we noticed there might be some confusion.. The rock, gem and jewel names started as a result of Jenn suggesting they were our family jewels.. You can't imagine the look on my face when she suggested they are/were the family jewels.. Any ways, the majority of our slithery friends have been named after rocks, gem's etc, without the intention of confusing people..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

Hehe, such a coincidence that snake morph names seem to have a habit of being based on natural materials...
