I went up yesterday evening and cruised the area near where we had our camp set up.. It was WAYYY less busy, barely any traffic at all.. First stop was Lee Canyon RD, to take a few plant pics..
I never remember names I swear, uh, flowers ;)

This pic sucks but it shows the red tail hawk in the top of this joshua tree that was screaming at the smaller bird on the other adjacent branch. The smaller birds kept harrassing it.

NOW theres clouds in the sky :nope:

Silver Cholla Flower, got to know a silver cholla pretty well later on on this cruise.

Then the first snake of the night... A DOR Gopher

Mt. Charleston in the background.. That gopher was right nest to a hill we hiked up on Saturday..

Next I moved a once beautiful panamint rattlesnake outta the road.. Well at least I got to use my hook :(

DSCF7768.jpg

WE hiked for a few more minutes waiting for it to get darker, and I saw these flowers..

Back on the road.. Drove by this guy, my friend swore it was dead.. NOPE!!! It was alive and pissed off... Yayy my very first live Gopher snake :D

After I released him..

Seems my gopher has turned into a cobra..

Next up, Cold Creek Road...
Saw a few banded geckos.. Both that I stopped to see where female..

Also on this road I saw some DOR's, a Groundsnake, 1 baby gopher, and one longnose. Funny thing is I saw a truck up ahead when I was photographing the DOR gopher baby, and I was thinking to myself, I wonder if they are looking for snakes too.. The guy pulls up a few minutes later as I am putting the snake off of the road.. "Hey was that a snake?" in a british accent.. Yep, was a gopher.. Then I was like HEY, I know you!!!!! It was a guy that comes into tha snake shop all the time.. So we talked for awhile.. I probably wouldve seen more snakes on this road if he hadn't of gotten there first as he had collected 4.. Couple gophers, a longnose and a glossy.. Dangit!! I havent seen a glossy yet, thanks dude!! :(

Next and last stop Kyle Canyon rd.. Which will forever be known to me as the road of death.. When Chris and I headed down from camp to go cruise, there where so many dead snakes, and so much traffic that nothing stood a chance on here.. If there wherent so many people, it wouldve been a nice place to cruise..
Last night I saw on this road 2 DOR gophers.. And on my way back down the hill saw this guy moving off of the road.. I slammed on the breaks, pulled over to the side and went running so see.. Woohoo, my very first live California King.. I saw my very first DOR one the other night..
Here he is, and my hand all freshly musked ;)

Decided to take a few pics of him on the ground, but he wouldn't sit still.. So in the process of trying to shoot pics of this guy, I ran into an evil little silver cholla.. ;) I finally got all the spines outta my leg though..
DSCF7819.jpg

And that was about it except for one almost dead baby gopher on the way back down :(

But when I got back to my house, this little creature was running around in the road in front of my house...
Sun Spider, .......... HEy Chris, how is this for evil and alienish?

Girl - you have much bigger cajones than I will ever have! That sun spider - hell no! I wouldn't have gone near it let alone pick the thing up!

Man...I thought I had some pretty Calis in my area...No matter how crisp and clean the ones from near me are...the two I've seen in your area are better.

And that spider-thing...you actually touched that monster?!? Gives me the heebie-jeebies...

Nice cruise!

You know whats funny.. I was out there by myself when I picked it up to and for a while it had disappeared on my body somewhere after it climbed up my arm while I was trying to take a pic of it... I was like uhoh!!!!!! Where did it go, crap!!! Finally I found it, on my neck lol..

Very nice pics!! You have some awesome wild snakes by you! I also liked the pic of the Red Tail :0) The spider...heh...well...no comment on that one..lol

LOL... The Sun spider is not actually a spider, but it is closely related. It is in the order Solifugae.. I never remove them from my property since the like to eat other bugs ;)

I really wish I had a better zoom to get a better picture of the red tail though..

I don't remember what the cali's in your area look like :( I'll see them oneday ;)
I have held them before, they arent that crazy.. But the very first time I saw one, it was in my house. And I was like WTH is that ??? It really freaked me out. So I caught it in a jar and looked it up online and it put all my fears at rest.. Had to show everyone first then set it free in my yard.. I told all the neighbors that if they see them not to kill them, call me and I will come catch them. I also told them the same with scorpions.. I haven't received many calls lol.. I think people prefer to kill things. I have had people call me to save other creatures from their yard, spiders, birds etc lol.

Yeah they have jaws... I have never been bitten by one thankfully.. I could only imagine how it would hurt. I have seen some big ones around, this one was a good mid sized one.
