They aren't too expensive. I'm not sure the going price for a young one in today's market, but I would guess around 100-150. I can't remember how much I paid for mine, 125ish I think.

They will be labeled as "black milksnake" by the breeder. I don't know how common they are at shows though. Probably a hit and miss sort of thing.

Hey Nitelion94,

The normal price is from $75.00 to $125.00 depends on breeder.

Look at the pictures of the hatchlings because all Black Milksnake hatchling look the same. Plus if you buy from a reputable breeder you will have no problems.

Never one to say it but....I told you so :D

I bet you find some at the show between $80 to $100 for young ones.

There is an ad on this site for some of these and if you go on kingsnake.com you will find several ads for some too.

Stay away from this one if you go there to look around as the snake pictured is an MBK but is being sold as a black milk:

To be safe you can run it by us before you buy one (if the ad is online) so we can tell you if you are getting the right one or not since you are new to these.

Yea man you did tell me so. No joke when I saw one your name was one of the first things that came in my head lol. I just saw the shiny black adult ones and fell in love. I was happy about getting my first corn pretty happy about getting a rosy boa but when I saw this I just knew I was in love. It was pretty random i found this thread so I know it was ment to be

Haha I was gonna link you this thread a few days back but I didn't want to ruin your rosy boa love! I knew once you found this that you would be hooked just like all of us are :) These guys are just plain awesome!!!

Dont get me wrong rosy are nice but these are just wooow lol. I only got one prob now If I cant find one at the show idk if I can buy one with shipping. my stupid xbox live that I have all ready paid till next march took 20 out of the bank so that cuts in to my snake fund. :(

Nitelion, it doesn't hurt to watch your local Craigslist for snakes, too. I've found a couple of mine, there. Although I must admit that I don't recall seeing any black milksnakes on there. It's worth a try, though. Just search the "pets" section for "milk snake" or "milksnake", and see what pops up!

Good luck. I would love to have a black milksnake, too, some day.

I think you will find one at the show. Just ask each vendor at every table until you find one haha!

Ok Im going to ask a few questions that were prob done answered. (I was at page sic but im getting bad sick so I want to lay down) Do they musk like other milks? so I dont need a uth? ummm that is it 4 now I cant think when im sick

Hey Nitelion94,

So how big of a tank do they need when there adults??????
Bigger than a 20L tank, Not sure myself.

Do they musk like other milks?
NO, or better worded my hatchlings have never musked me yet.

so I dont need a uth?
I would install one but you may not use it because it depends on how cold you let your house get. Now I have belly heat on mine because my whole rack has heat.

You'll definitely need a tank bigger than 20 gallons. I'd recommend 40gl or bigger for an adult. Mine likes to roam around a lot so I've givern him vines to climb on even though they are not arboreal snakes.

I got my four year old black milk, Jet, from Markus aka lovin2act, and I assume Jet was handled often and treated very well because he is an absolute sweet heart. He's the tamest, calmest snake I own. He has never musked me or struck at me and he is the only snake of mine I feel comfortable letting friends handle. I'm sure that is a result of being taken well care of, but also I'm sure its a personality thing. Like, some of my corns are super tame from hatchlings on, others are very aggressive and take a long time to calm down.

Also, about UTHs, I'd be careful about using one. Black milks are a somewhat alpine species and do not require a whole lot of heat. Room temps that a human can comfortably live in are usually perfect for a black milk.

Hold on lol we should wait until he gets the ok from his parents first. Doing this recommendation is fine for us adults but teens on the other hand we have to take a step back.

Ok well I plan on making mine (when I get one) a display snake so I plan on building it a tank I was just wondering how big it should be. Could you tell me what length and width I should make?

Ideally I recommend going by the L-rule. Tank Width x Length = Snake length. Of course, that's gonna be a massive tank if you have a 6 foot snake. I'd say 30" x 16" or bigger is fine.

I am running on the presumption that parents have given permission, or he wouldn't be asking :). And if he plans on waiting 'til he's a legal adult, well, then, np, either!

Hey Lovin2act,

You can't call that thing a Black Milksnake!!!

You can call that thing a Blue Black Milksnake. LOL Does your Black Milksnakes eat when in blue. I am just wondering because one of mine will not until it's eyes clear then it will eat before it sheds. The other two will eat no matter what is going on so long as they smell a mouse they eat.
