The official Black Milksnake thread!!

Yeah she should take right to eating f/t without issue. Mine all did and were f/t rodent destroyers out the gate. Yeah every four days should be fine. My adults I fed once a week and my young ones I fed twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays). It's definitely considered better to give them smaller meals more often when they are babies through their first year and even up to 2 years old I have found from the data I have collected in my time with this snake addiction. And your temps sound just right...doing great there :)

Thanks kindly.
I too have the addiction, fed it heavily from the mid-'70's through the mid-'90's, took a 15 year break... then jumped back into it about three months ago. Wife wanted a hardy, docile snake for her 3rd grade classroom "mascot". A corn would have been a good choice, but she was leary on the size and liked the looks of the 50/50 CalKing the best. We lucked out with our pick as he has been the perfect lil' gentleman and the wife/3rd grade class are quite pleased with him.
I on the otherhand could not stand "managing" Marty from a far and he found his way back home for long weekends routinely to the point the wife was commenting on whos snake he really was... so I solved that problem w/Bosco.
:duck:
Wife hasn't warmed up to having a snake in the house full time, but she knows who she married 17 years ago and I did a good job suppressing for a decade and a half... I mean come on, what should she expect?
All that said... I have had countless wild collected snakes, boas, balls, a corn and a Sinoloan(for a very short bit-escape). Not really sure why I never indulged my interest in Lampropeltis... but sure am glad I did now... these dudes(ettes) are awesome lil'critters. Having the marital neccesity to keep it at a minimum, I am confident I have made the best decision.
... dang that was long!
Good day,
Eric

Meet Shadow

Hello everyone. This is my first time on here and since your talking about one of my faves on this thread let me introduce you to my boy Shadow

Welcome archangel7!

Wow, Shadow is so shadowy that I cannot even see him. He seems to be very sneaky!

I have a Black Milk coming, should arrive on Thursday.

Had I known they didn't need additional heat above room temperature, I would have gotten one ages ago.

They seem to be the perfect Colubrid!

What an interesting thread! These are such cool-looking snakes and it seems like they're very docile too.

Snapped off a few today. Bosco weighs in at 70g at almost 7 months old... believing I will change her name to "Moose".
Very, very cool snake, no doubt my favorite.

There's a high probability I might be waiting another year to breed them. I just don't know if I have the time this year with all the school stuff I will be doing this spring/summer.

I decided to get a male 2011 hatchling in December, and here he is featured in a pretty bad photo taken in December. I'll take more photos once he starts his color changes. He's about 28" now, very calm, and has absolutely no feeding issues...! :)
