The Spirits Thread!

I'm primarily a vodka guy, but none of that garbage that gets passed off for vodka, like Absolut(ly digsusting), or that flavored stuff. Give me Belvedere, Grey Goose, or Kettle One. Finlandia is OK, and I'll even "stoop" to Skyy. But if it isn't top-shelf, I don't want it. And just put it in a glass with some seltzer and lime...

I also like chilled SoCo and lime shooters.

For beer, I like heffeweizen and ambers. My favorites are Widmer Brothers Heffeweizen and Fat Tire, but I also like (locally brewed) Mammoth Brewing Company's Double Nut Brown and Golden Trout. I wouldn't pass on a RedTail Ale or a Mojave Red, either...

I love some great Tequila, especially a medium mescal good for sipping neat or light for my famous Tequila Sunrises. When I was 18 my friends and I went down to Mexico and hit all the distilleries, the real ones, where you brought your own bottle to fill. That was a great trip. Since I was the least affected, I drove towards the border... on the wrong side of the freeway... I was wondering why all the signs were grey and didn't have any writing... then I saw all the headlights coming for me... I U-turned just in time and parked along the side of the road for a bit, my drunk friends none the wiser. Getting through the border, my Mexican friend and guide was so drunk, that when asked his citizenship, he said, "California! Woooo!", so we were thrown out of the car and searched. Luckily all the contraband was in the air conditioning hoses and vents, of which bottle size was chosen, lol... We were set in tequila for years...

Another thing we used to do is snort Frangelico off the bottom of a shot glass...

Looking back, that's probably what gave me acid reflux, lol... I hardly ever drink now, I pretty much got it out of my system by the time I was 22. Now if I do, it's maybe one shot of Patron, or a Corona with lime, or a really, really, dark beer, like coffee. I really love Sprechers' Black Bavarian...

Southern Comfort for me, no ice, just enough soda water to stop it evaporating and I'm happy! The results can be seen from our hospital awards night. I've quite plainly forgotten by this time that we were beaten in our nomination by the Mortuary team

For a while there, I was drinking Irish Mist. Which is a nicely flavored liquor. That stuff goes down so smooth, that you could kill the whole fifth.

I've been working on a bottle of "Boilo" since Christmas...:crazy02:

I could probably bring some to Daytona, if anybody is interested. That's just a little illegal...

Why? I made amaretto for a bunch of people for Christmas once.

OK, so where are we having the party in Daytona?

Someone's room! Not mine!! I have to go to bed "early" and it'll be a non-smoking room. I vote for Hallie's room, or Katie's room. _Someone_ that likes to stay up late will have adjoining rooms with someone else.

So Butch...about those cherry bombs...

When it is Vodka, I ONLY drink Grey Goose. Grey Goose with Cranberry Juice is really smooth.

Hmmmm, well I don't like beer, and I don't like wine or champagne so that leaves.....yup the "hard stuff" :):):)
My all time fav is cap't and coke. But I also like vodka and any kind of Dole juice blend mix.
As far as shots my all time fav would be the Oatmeal Cookie Shot!!!!!! yum yummmmmmm
OH!! I almost forgot my all time fav. martini-- would be the Espresso martini--it's like dessert in a glass!!!!! Now I wanna go out and drink :)

....Pure Tennessee shine, I don't recommend more than a few if you want to get up the next day

We made what we called cherry bombs by dumping out half the liquid in a jar of maraschino cherries and filling it back up with 151. Let them sit in the fridge for at least a week and then eat a couple at a time, or stick them on a paper umbrella stem and use as a garnish for mixed drinks...

Anyone ever make "garbage can punch"?
It's where you buy a new plastic garbage can, wash it out, and fill 1/4 of the way with ice and add 5 gallons fruit punch/juices. Decide whether you want everyone to bring vodka or rum, and tell them to bring their favorite fruit, or assign what fruit to bring so it's evenly mixed. As they arrive they pour their bottles into the can. Then add the fruit they brought, like chunks of seedless watermelon, peeled citrus slices, mango, pineapple, kiwi, and berries... and stir it with an oar. The punch keeps changing as people arrive with different fruit, it's pretty fun and always tastes different every time you make it....

I'm getting a lot of good ideas from this thread! ;)

My favorite alcoholic beverage without a doubt is Crown Royal. I like it mixed with a little bit of Dr. Pepper. When I can't afford Crown, I go to my default Captain and Dr. Pepper. I usually use the Dr. Pepper for color after I'm on the second or third drink.

As for beer, I like it well enough, but given the choice I will always go with my 2 favorites over beer. My favorite beer is a KC company called Boulevard Wheat. It's really good beer.

I just want one! And I want to roll it in sugar. I might be having flashbacks to when my dad used to make an Old Fashioned for my mom. But I'm not a whiskey/bourbon/scotch drinker. You should have seen me when I figured out what Bailey's was made out of! Took me forever to get over that...

I like wine! My favorite white is Sauvignon Blanc, (well, of the whites that are commonly available, anyway) and my favorite red is Shiraz. I have a nice collection of desert wines that I am hoarding.

I also love a good margarita- on the rocks, with salt. I actually appreciate the many different recipes- the more expensive, the better!

Wine here too, when I'm feeling 'girlie'. Do you have more of what you brought to Daytona last year? If so, we'll be splitting it! I may be able to raid my wine rack too. :D

And I LOVE margaritas. :)

As far as beer goes, Schooners isn't bad. I also really like Sam Adams Winter L auger and the Oktoberfest.

I went to the Sam Adams Brewery while I was in Boston last month...so fun! We got to try a bunch of beer, including one that you can only get at 2 bars in the Boston, nowhere else, and only on tap.

Yep, sounds like how cherry bombs are made around here!

And yep, but we call it something else...I can't remember the name (probably because I can't remember anything after a few cups of the stuff!).

If I'm out, I go with Jack/Jameson and coke, or just shots of Jameson or Jack. At home, I'll make appletinis or other fruity martinis, and occasionally have a whiskey and whatever soda I have laying around.
