Racism has tarnished every civilization not just blacks, jews, hispanics, and others we deem "minorities". My family is from Sicily a small country that was raveged by the Moores who were black and yet I hope no ill feelings toward them. They didn't rape, burn, pillage, and kill me- but my ancestors can't say the same. There are no holidays for sicilians, college funds, reparations, or public appologies and no I don't feel like I need one because these exact things are what fuel racism in our society. When a society gives special allowances for any class, race, gender, or religion that group developes a sense of entitlement because that society at one point entitled them to something others outside of that group couldn't have which is the definition of racism and discrimination. Anything that separates one group from another discriminates plain and simple!
If we look at the history of slavery from beginning to end concerning blacks we would see their own African governments at the time originally sold them to us in exchange for goods- though yes after the fact we brutally took them from their homes and enslaved them illegally. However, since when were blacks the only slaves in society? Can anyone name a society who did not enslave their people or others from foreign countries at some point in history? Is slavery even comparable to the hollocaust or the brutality and gorilla warfare alive in Africa today from their own people?
And what the hell is an African-American anyway. Am I a Sicilian American because thats where my ancestors are from? Putting anything in front of the word American implies you immigrated here from another country and THEN became an American citizen. As long as we use fancy words and have fancy associations geared toward any one race we will have racism.
Rickael: Seeing as you have so much time and energy on your hands and the obvious use of them maybe you should endeavor into the real world, get a job, and form logical perspective. Your views on the world are so one sided and restricted its kinda sad. I am not saying we live in a completely racially tolerant society either, but blacks are not the only race that is discriminated against by a long shot- just the ones that yell the loudest and get the most recognition. Our PC policies are shaping a society where everything is insensitive, rude, and wrong unless it is directed at the white man and then its o.k because after all whites have it so easy, already have it all, and don't deserve respect because their ancetors MAY have been slave owners, ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought Daneille made so many good points that it was worth repeating.

Whoa, talk about ridiculous!. I've heard your views on race, and welfare, and disabilities, and I'm utterly convinced you have no desire to change them…………… I speak from the heart, and when I look in the mirror I see myself in full. Society doesn't fragment my views, and I am only to willing to hear the views of people who state their opinions from the heart, as well…………………………… Topics like these are important for growth if we stay civil, but my advice for you is to just stare in the mirror. Look at your own eyes and ask yourself how real YOU keep it. Do you speak to listen, or do you just listen to yourself speak?. We're all cool in front of a computer, but beyond that if your own hypocracy prevents you from gaining truth in knowledge than what exactly is YOUR goal in all this Both seem selfish to me, and neither adds any substance to what I feel was a healthy discussion!.

WOW!!!. That is completely and utterly pathetic. I hope that 44 on your age number is just an accident, and you added an extra 4 by mistake, because a 44 year old should be a bit more intelligent than this I'm not going to call you any "choice" words, because you so blatantly exemplify them all, but I do think that a person your age should have more of a life than this. That's a lot of research and time, for such a weak post. Call yourself embarrassed, and move on from their, because this is just plain sad!.

Oh, I REALLY wish this site allowed for me to call a spade a spade. As it is, I have no problem with "Bad old white men", just the ugly shirtless ones (uh thank you!!!). Consider yourself officially called out!!!.

So, Lets get this straight. Danielle is ridiculous, tsst is completely and utterly pathetic, and I’m an ugly shirtless bad old white man. And who is the spade?

I like the part about speaking from the heart. That adds a real sense of sincerity to what you say. From now on I’m only speaking from my heart too so listen up. Bump bump bump bump bump bump

Do you speak to listen, or do you just listen to yourself speak?.

Rickeal, I like that word, I sometimes don’t know for sure who I’m talking to and get responses for both of you. Do you listen? Do you read the other posts before you respond? I have asked you several times to respond to different posts but you never do. Can you address any of the facts pointed out or are you only able to attack the person who wrote them?

wade strikes a good point. I haven't gotten a reply to any of my statements, robby's points have been virtually ignored, wade has just been bashed without evedence of the accusions, and many other people who haven't came out on your side have either been ignored or personally attacked for no reason. Just do a huge post doing your views on the evedence, statements, and ideas made and posted in this thread. Then we get on the same page. None of us have just called you an idiot right out of the blue. But you did that to us without telling us WHY you feel that way. It seems like you are just trying to recruit more people to go to your "cause". :shrugs:

Oh shoot, did I say that?. Sorry, Professor Snape must have slipped some Veritaserum into my Pumpkin Juice again last night (oh, SNAP!!!).

All right, technically you have a physical heart so I can't call you the Tin-Man. Still, be careful next time you smoke a cigarette, cause your definitely made of straw (I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers, Consultin' with the rain. And my head I'd be scratchin' while my thoughts were busy hatchin'......................
).

I shouldn't have to tell you this, seeing as how your 58, but GROW THE FUDGE UP!!!!!!. Too old; way, WAY, too old!.

The only part of this race topic I even want to touch is the affirmative action thing.
Laws already make it illegal to discriminate when hiring, when accepting students and etc.. So it almost looks like there would be no reason for affirmative action. Well, I think we all know how people are, and how easy it is to deny acceptance to someone based on one reason, but with the pretense that it's for another reason. The point is, I still am glad that it exists, but I recognize that it's time has to be limited. The idea of it is that it's a way to make sure people are obeying the laws they should be anyway, till the culture shifts away from racism enough that it's no longer necesary.

As far as debating this point, I don't see the need! There's an old saying about science that it moves forward with each funeral. I think the same is true of Equal Rights for all Americans..

I've been denied employment because I was female and also because I was pregnant. I have no illusions as to why I was turned away for those jobs, but I didn't see nor did I expect any "affirmative action" to help in those situations (not that it is available anyway). :shrugs:

You’re cute Ricky. You even quoted my last paragraph where I asked you to say something of substance. I noticed you didn’t read it however. Apparently pointing fingers and calling names is the limit of your abilities.

There is affirmative action for women as well! And I don't mean to debate you on it, if you feel it's unnecesary, I'm glad it's there..

No kidding? Hmmm. Well, I guess those two companies didn't know either. ;)

Really, I wouldn't have done anything about it anyway if given the opportunity. I don't want to work for a company that operates under such nonsense anyway. I guess my whole point was that I've been faced with sexism, which is just as bad as racism (though I have been faced with racism on an non-employment level), but I don't expect a result in my favor or special help in dealing with the situation. If a person or company wants to be ignorant and foolish, that's their problem and I don't have to associate with them.

I'm done with you. You don't respond to me and I won't respond to you. Bickering with you is SO beyond worthless, so from now on just mind your own business and leave it at that!!!.

Just pointing out some irony for Dale knowing the fan he is.
Great job spending so much time digging through posts, just to be a douche bag. You quoted it was ironic that my brother says people that get government money shouldn't spend it frivolously, and say it's ironic seeing I had a post in which I said I spent $1,200 dollars on my dog. Which is not only ignorant of my situation, but oh so pathetic on your part. I worked for ever cleaning restraunts to pay for her, and not a penny of my social security money was spent. Besides, how is spending money on a dog frivolous, I assume you purchase snakes. Make points debating the topic at hand, and keep your other pathetic inquiries to yourself.
Interesting advice to Robbie on how to get by without public assistance.
Then some past quotes...
And don't bring Robbie into the discussion, he wasn't making rude assumptions about my situation, and doesn't deserve to sink to your level simply because you both share some disagreements with my opinion. He stated his opinions on his difficulty to find work, and although I disagree in some of his philosophies why, I respect his opinion. You are by yourself, so don't start trying to bring in other people by putting words in their mouth or mine.

Okay seriously guys and gals, ENOUGH with the name calling. It doesn't really matter who's a spade, who's a club, who's a heart, or who's a diamond. It does... not... MATTER. Name calling is the basis of an argument founded in desperation, and is usually only used to start a fight. Don't stoop down to that level. This has actually been a very good discussion/debate so far. I'd hate to see it end in warnings/infractions/bans.

EDIT: Changed wording in sentence two and three.

I worked for ever cleaning restraunts to pay for her, and not a penny of my social security money was spent.

Can I ask a question? How does a person, who is age 21, cleans restaurants (works) , collect SSI?

I was injured at work in October. I have been spending more time doing physical therapy, seeing doctors, specialists and whatever, then I ever wanted to. I have had one surgery already and I am looking at another. A total joint replacement as a matter of fact. My only income is my workers comp $$. Not to mention that I have two children and I am married and I am not eligible for ANY type of assistance and I live in NH.

How is it that you work, can buy a dog for $1200 and you can still collect SSI? You may have a really legitimate reason that I don't know about, but I am just curious!

How do you know how much time I do or do not have on my hands? you have triple the posts on here as I do, and have never met me. And you also have zero clue about my perspective of the world, this is one debate, and I share one opinion on it. Your opinion is equally as one sided, you just happen to share an opinion on this topic more common on this site.

The difference is my opinion was backed with actual support and your opinion is just because you say so. I am not sure what my post count has to do with anything, but I am sure people who just work when they really want something, but collect SSI for their needs does not live in a realitic world with any perspective on life. Collecting disability means you can not work- not you can only work when the state won't buy you a dog- or at least in logic right:D So when I say your opinion defies logic and you call yourself logical when theres evidence to the contrary what am I supposed to think?

I get ATPD, aid to the totally and permanently disabled. I can make up to $800 something a month before it starts depleting from my SSI, but I make nowhere near that. Cleaning restraunts was a very hard task, but just because I can do it, it doesn't mean my disability is any less severe. My mother cleaned them before I did, and lost her license, so rather than drive her there and go home, I decided I would help and make a little money. I probably couldn't lift 15lbs over my head, but I try to push myself physically, and restraunt cleaning was difficult. But if I want things, I have to get the money, and if that means vaccuming and cleaning disgusting toilets, so be it.
My dog was $1,200, but the thread I posted was about pet store vs. breeder puppies, and I used my dog as a point. I was on no way bragging, it was simply to make a case in that thread, then tsst brought it up in this thread to be pathetic. It took 4-5mo's worth of cleaning, plus I had to sell some things, so I did'nt just up and make $1,200 in one month plus disability. It was so irrelevant of tsst to bring up, and I would gladly give him my $600 a month to take my disability for me.
If you would like to know my condition, it's called Multi Core, look it up, but it's hard to find any info about (it's rare). It's too bad that you have had your surgeries, I hope the best for you, but my situation is far different. I'll be very honest about my disability, which is hard, but I'm sick of the harassment about my SSI. I was born with Multi Core, a disease that leaves my muscles riddled with little holes basically (there's not much research done, it's very rare). My brother and I were never even supposed to walk, but we learned after years of trying to cope. I'm 5' 7" and weigh around 90lbs, so there's no question my disability affects every thing I do.
I get very bothered when people question how difficult my disability is (not that you were, others have), and can't stand people making SSI out as some gov't hand out, or question how I'm able to buy things I do. I wanted a dog after my childhood dog passed away of a heart condition, so I worked my ass off to get a dog from a breeder that would be less likely to have health problems, and I'm just so bothered that tsst made it sound like SSI paid for my luxury $1,200 dog. If making $1,200 for a dog sounds like alot for an able bodied person, than think what it was like for me. So noone has the right to make accusations of me for that, or any other personal attack (again not that you were personally).

Michael, I never insinuated that SSI was a handout for anyone with a legitimate disability. I really hope it didn't come off that way, because that's not what was intended. I know that SSI is a very valuable resource for those that are unable to work in an environment that most people do. My friend was wounded overseas in the military, and now has to walk with a cane (he wasn't even 20 when he got the injury). Due to his condition, he can't work in most envirnoments that "normal" people would be able to. He relies on his SSI for his bills, food, etc. I totally agree that for a legitimate disability, SSI is needed. It is very hard to fake a disability, so I have no doubt that that's one of the government resources not being taken advantage of by the same people that are leeching off the other resources.

If that is how you did and do what you are doing, then I applaud you! I wasn't out to make it like you are just getting a hand out and as I implied in my post, you may have a valid reason for collecting. SSI isn't a hand out! It's a sort of government retirement package that we all put away for and hope that it's still available when it's time for us to retire. Thanks for going out on a limb and explaining that!

And you say you live in a real world, you are so ignorant, and I have no respect for you at all after this. Look up Multi Core, and give me your diagnosis doctor, then tell me whether I deserve SSI or not. You are so far beyond blind, and I really dislike you after that last post. Every day is a struggle for me, and my disease could easily kill me before I turn 30. I could sit around and collect the disability, buy cigarrettes and beer, and drink my SSI away, yet you judge me for trying to live a life where I can have a job, make my own money, and get things I want. If I didn't clean or work I could never get a thing I please other than essentials, so I choose to exert my energy so I can have things I love. My dog means the world to me, and you have zero right to say whether I deserved to get one, or not. It's heartless, ignorant people like you that I despise the most, and rather than counting your own blessings, you judge how easy other people have it in your eyes. Treating it like I sit around on my ass until I so decide to get a job and work, then buy things I want. You could never live in my shoes, and I can't believe how a person like you could accuse anyone of being one sided.
