Therapy Serpent! Pics

Some people think that old elderly ladies are scared of snakes. Some people are so wrong! LOL! Today I drove the bus of the nursing home I work at in activities to go get some ice cream and since I had to stop by my house anyway, one of the staff members that came along asked to see a snake. The residents said they wanted to see too...so I brought out my safest slowest snake, the albino ball python Anne. She was a star. They wanted to touch her, to pet her. They LOVED it! It really made me feel great. One resident talked about how she thought she would never get this opportunity and how glad she was to do it! :)

That is so awesome!! This is why when I have my own classroom I fully intend to bring Naomi in as often as possible. I may even keep her in the classroom...

That is one of the most awesome things I've seen in quite a while! That is so sweet and what an experiance for them! You always hear about people educating children about reptiles but never about the elderly. Kudos to you and a big 'ol hug for making my day!

Awe! That is soo amazing. That story totally made my week. Thank you so much for doing that and for sharing it with us!
I truly am a sucker for the elderly and those pictures were just so heart warming!

Aww, minnlynn has a point here, people allways think that kids, with their curiosity are the best students for educational showings, no one ever seems to stop and think, mabie some old folks would like to expirience this before they "move on"
Alotta elderly dont get the opportunity because they cannot travel on there own.

LOL it was definatly a surprise for them.

The sad part is I offered to do this at work once before and was told by the head nurse and the administrator that it would terrify the old people and I could kill them with shock. Lies based on fear and superstition!

My grandma is utterly in love with Hokie the corn snake. She loves him. Has a photo of him next to her chair that she shares with house guests. It's hysterical... she calls him her great-grand-snake.

These pictures are incredibly moving... very good job, Tara. :)

Tara, that is just the sweetest thing. Gosh, I could never do your job. I just love the elderly too too much.

I agree!!! couldn't have said it better, I'd give you two thousand of my rep points if I could!...I'll just remember to give you more when I can! Thanks for sharing!

That is so great that would have made my day too. I seem to find most older people I meet do better with reptiles I bring to shows then some younger people.

That is awesome!! My daughter works for a nursing home also, as a dietary assistant. She talks to a few of her residents about her snakes and they also would love to see them, but the employee's are a different story...lol
