But they are beautiful, so I'll let it slide...

'Tis better to be safe than sorry!

I had 2 beautiful peach trees this year. This small tree that produces large numbers of small-ish white flesh fruit, and a much larger one that produces smaller numbers of large, ultra-sweet yellow flesh fruit. We managed to harvest about 5 dozen white flesh peaches before the birds got to them. We only maneged 4 yellow flesh peaches…

But the birds and the bees are happy as you please, and all is as it should be.

Thanks for taking the time to look!!

What kind of birds are they, Chris? Their beaks make them look kind of finch-like.

They are finches. Around here, people call them "House Finches", but I am unsure if this is just a local moniker or a truly "common name". The peaches they are eating are very small...less than a baseball, more like a child's fist...

Heck, actually you are lucky it's only birds eating your fruit. Between the deer, the possums, and the raccoons, ALL of the peaches on our trees vanished virtually overnight. Heck, we've got deer eating the moonflower leaves and flowers, and also munching away on the leaves in our watermellon patch. So far nothing has touched the tangerine and lemon trees.

We had squirrels eating away at the fruit on our pindo palm, but I think they all ate so much that they got sick of them. The tree was producing a LOT of fruit. Haven't seen any of them around lately, and the fruit is falling to the ground uneaten. Connie has planted a bunch of the fruits around the property to see if they will propagate.

I guess if you live out in nature, you are fair game to the wildlife, as far as they are concerned....

Chris, they are actually called "House Finches", so that is correct. I love House Finches, they are so pretty!!!

It;s an easy payoff. I have TONS of lizards and snakes running around my house, as well. I have seen more Coachwhips and Spiny Lizards this summer than any other, because they all live in my yard.

I guess if that means I'm gonna lose some peaches to the birds...so be it!

I'm with you, Chris... small price to pay to have a little bit of nature close by. :)

As usual, GREAT pics! We used to have peach trees by my grandmother's house too... As kids one of our chores was to check the tree every few days for "good ones" to make peach pie with. I had so much peach pie as a kid, it is NEVER first on my list... kinda got tired of peach pie, I guess. LOL.
