too hot!!!

Edmonton is pretty wild on the extremes... It will get 100+ outside (40 Celsius). Edmonton is known to have more hours of sunshine per year than any other major city in Canada.

This again causes concern when it comes to heating for my corn. Temps outside fluctuate 160 degrees from coldest to warmest.

Wanna pay my light bill? :p

I've never tried this, but it might work. Buy a couple of those re-usable plastic ice packs to place next to one outside wall of the viv. Those things stay cold for a long time and you can just rotate them on a daily basis. It should provide a cooler part of the viv that your snake could go to if it needs. Having a small fan blowing over it towards the viv should cool things even more.

As for me, I'm used to paying anywhere from $150 - $240/month for electricity (ave $180, the $240 bill is just once or twice a year when the company adds other charges). I currently have the A/C on in the main house, but heaters on in the snake room. And most of my non-snake owning friends have higher electric bills.

Right now I have only 1 snake. Her tank is in a bad spot for temperature.
I have it on a small landing at the top of the stairs,,between my kids rooms. In the summer each room has a small 5000 btu window until to keep them cool.Their doors stay shut,so any warm air that gets pushed up there from the down stairs AC,,pools right at the top.In the summer the head of the stairs gets to be 85+ :eek1: thats not going to work for my snake.
I got her last Sept.,so I didn't think much about this potential problem.
Maybe the wife won't mind the tank in the bedroom :sidestep:

I think i might try the ice thing Susan. I have ice packs for the kids lunches.

 or maybe I should blame the snake. So I can tell the hubby to by me AC for the bedroom. I've always wanted it, but could never justify it.

:uhoh: just though of something. If I do that i won't be able to feed the corn addiction that's taken ahold of me. :grin01:

I like the ice pack idea, but I'm gonna try putting the pack on TOP of the screen lid in the cool end. Cold air drops down into the viv, creating a very slight breeze with the warm air moving up and out on the hot end...Should create some nice circulation for them that way. I'm gonna give it a shot...

Well, I broke down and set the programable thermostat yesterday, so it isn't going to get up to 90 any more. I'm going to try 88 and see what that's like. I planted another live oak on the southwest side tonight, too.

Chris, when does it get hot out there?
