Hi everyone ! I had my cornsnake for about 10 years now, it never has problems shedding nor eating unfrozen mice. But everytime I touch it or picking it up it starts twitching ( like spasms and starts moving slowly with the spasms ). Never bitten me and I've had it since it was a hatchling. I'd just want to know what's causing this and if I should be worried about that. Once I pick it up it's all fine though. Thanks in advance :)
 
I wish I knew. When I bought it the guy told me it was to young to find it out and I never went back to know because I don't plan on breeding.
 
lol get that poor guy some nookie. I'm sorry, but if it's what I'm thinking it is... that's funny.
 
I kinda wish there was a way to spay/ neuter reptiles... that way we wouldn't have such issues with hybrids getting sold off and bred, and you guys don't even want to know what male tortoises do. Our snakes could live happy and healthy without making you feel bad for them when they get... "lonely."
 
I have a male cornsnake, Milky. After his first breeding season, all he thinks about, year round, is nookie. I used to think it was funny to pet him and get him all twitchy. Till one day he bit me really hard and threw a bunch of coils around my hand! Not mating behavior, BTW...
 
Is it only males who do this? Because I have a charcoal that was sold to me as a female who does this after she eats. And now I'm wondering.

(Only after she eats, btw. Otherwise, she doesn't twitch.)

Oh wow, that is wild. My male hasn't had a girl in 2 years and he's fine, he just wanders about during what would be mating season. I had him with a mature female for a while (now separated) after breeding season and he and her would both do a little twitching after they were fed and put back together but only for a few seconds. Wow though, I didn't think a male would change after being bred.
 
He's the only one who takes it so seriously. Another thing about his behaviour that changed is he started splashing all the water out of his bowl every day. Every single day!! I eventually had to put his bowl inside a 9" deli with the lid on, with holes cut in the lid so he could get in and out.

What on earth? Why would he do that? Strange.
 
That's what that is? I always thought it was them getting used to being petted, like how cats will twitch all down their backs when you first start petting them. :p
Poor Stig is all alloooooone with nobody there besiiiiiiide hiiiim...:rofl:
 
My male amel does the twitch when his tub is cleaned and when I spot clean. Whenever he smells fresh aspen he'll do it,even if I just throw in a handfull after spot cleaning. Goofy snake.
