Unexpected addition

I was contacted a couple of days ago by a friend of a friend who had a 2010 candy cane corn and needed to get rid of it. She had bought the corn, while living with her boyfriend, then a fight happened and she is now living with her mom and her mom is terrified of snakes. She had to get rid of the snake or mom was going to "turn it loose in the yard" so.........here is my new female candy cane. :)

Very pretty little amel and nice early Christmas present. FYI, it's not a candy cane which is an amel with only red and white coloring:)

I'm new to corn morphs so I was not sure. She said she was told by the breeder that she was a candy cane. She has only had her for two weeks and during that time she said she fed her 6 pinkies........OMG!!!!!

There is a lady out here that breeds her corns and calls them candy corns. They are just normal amel's, though a couple may be reverse okeetee's, I will have to go look at them again when I am back in Alamo.

Your new addition is very pretty.

Candy cane or amel she is very pretty and looks to be healthy. It's like christmas came early. LOL I'm glad to have her and that the girl doesn't have snakes anymore because she was clueless. She said every time she would see her out of her hide "she was hungry so I fed her". She was feeding her two and three pinkies at a time.

I think she's going to be really really pretty when she grows up. While she doesn't look like she's going to go vibrant like a sunglow, she does have pretty much nothing in the way of borders to her saddles, which is always something I like. :D

She's a pretty Amel ( like they said not a candy, those are line-bred [not specific genetics] and high contrast white and red) Like I wrote in the PM, 3 sounds like a bit much but she looks healthy and if they'll eat that many as juveniles and you want to feed that much it really shouldn't be a problem, some snakes just grow faster...although I'm sure just two would be fine as well.

She's beautiful so Amel or candy cane, it's all good. She said she just fed her three on Tuesday and she is in shed so she is tucked away to settle in and I will feed her next Sunday when the rest eat.

I took her with me to HarleyDan's tonight when I went to pick up pinkies and he confirmed....she is an amel. He also called the guy that I was told was her breeder and we got as much information about her linage as we could. We'll see how it goes from here. I have the BEST breeder!!!!!!!

My new Amel was shedding when I got her so following advise I had her in her viv with wet newspaper. She shed sometime lastnight so while I had her out to clean her viv I grabbed some quick shots.

Here she is freshly shed....

Yes she is, and really sweet. I could tell when I got her that she was in shed, she was very dull and when I took her to my breeders that night we noticed that she had some spots on her tail that were starting to peel. We were worried she was going to have a hard time with this shed because she looked a little dehydrated but she shed with no problem and doesn't look dehydrated any more.

She sure is vividly colored. I hope she keeps that coloring because if she does she is going to be a screamer. And yes, she does look like Ares, who is also an amazingly bright amel.

I just wanted to give a quick update on my amel. She has been officially named Ruby (keeping with the Land Before Time theme), settled in well, and had her first feed with me Sunday. I was told by the crazy chic I got her from that she had fed her between 2 & 4 pinkies at a time.....well there is no way in h#$$. I feed small pinkies and one pinkie filled her up.

Glad to hear she's settling in Josie. She sure is beautiful. And my snakes are named after Gods.. Ares and Zeus so I kept to the God themes lol

@ Ares2010... I have also named all of my snakes after Gods, Goddess and demigods.

@josie glad to here that Ruby is doing so well!

Beautiful baby you have there!
You're right, the person who told you to feed that much because they'll eat that much, is wrong. That is power feeding, & can cause a lot of problems for your snake down the road.
Do you know how much your baby weighs? She still looks pretty small. She won't need double pinkies until she's about 16 grams. The Munson Plan is a really good guilde for what size & how much to feed them. Some feel even that is feeding too much, but it's a good guide.

I let my teenage kids name the snakes and they both loved Land Before Time. I have Cera, Duckie, Petrie, Chomper, Dill, and now Ruby. I'm going to run out of characters before long. LOL

I do not have a scale but I do know that she is about the same size as my other hatchlings. She is not thin, in fact she's pretty muscular and strong for a hatchling. Honestly, I just do not think this girl knew what she was doing. After talking to her I figured out that every time she saw Ruby out of her hide she thought she was hungry so she would feed her. She said she had 7 pinkies in a two week period but honestly I do not see how she could handle even two pinkies at this point.
