Pet Corn Snake

One of the main reasons I like this site is because it gives us the chance to update and share new stories about our reptiles as well as learn from each other about them.

I just wanted to update everyone on Sabrina, I got Sabrina early 07 as a rescue, I then re-homed her due to her aggression problems *I was new to the hobby* and then I took her back, and considered re-homing her, when It got to the day I could not do it. Ever since then I have been trying my best to be confident around her and was hoping if she sensed that I was not nervous, she would calm down.

It seems to have worked! all month I have been using the snake hook a little less, and less and less, and right now I'm considering throwing it away. I have now got Sabrina out with no problems, strikes, or bites 5 times. The latest time being 20minuates ago when I reached in, dug around her aspen bedding, found her and got her out. No problems, no aggression, just a lovely calm snake.

she had a hard few years as a young'en, and now I'm going to keep her to the best of my ability, in a nice tank with fresh water/food and enough handling to keep her exercised, for the rest of her life.

Congrats on all the hard work paying off :) sounds like your both less stressed, and like Sabrinas finally settled down :spinner:

Sabrina's just like most human women... treat her with respect, give her time to believe that you're genuine and develop trust and you've got a friend (at least) for life. Abuse that trust, just once, and it's all over.

Good show, George!

I'm glad you decided to stick with her, George. She'll probably outlast many future girlfriends...(I don't mean that in a negative way- just a that's the way of the world way).

I am glad to hear you kept her, George.

And even more glad to hear that she is starting to calm down for you.

Congrats on getting the snake to calm down! :0) Do you have gloves that you use to handle your snake with? If you do I would say to keep them around just in case he starts to act up again...If not you might want to think about getting a pair..In case he does start up again..but I'm sure your snake will just get even better with time and good handling..Congrats again :0)

lol :)

Yea I do have some gloves I don't use them for handling though, only cleaning out and stuff, I have the yellow dish washing gloves lol, if she bites them she will regret it, they taste horrible!
I'm confident she'll be okay though :) And if not, I think I like the challenge ;)

Spent £50 on the snakes today, going to get some more supplies tomorrow, including "finally" a digital thermometer! I got a really interesting Royal python book too! It's really cool! I'm ordering Kathy and Bill's book in April, too!

She's just lulling you into a false sense of security until she can get another chance at your neck =)

George, I had a feeling she would come around. I have an 06 former "hateling". He's a little granite called Syko. When he was the size of a pencil, he was the meanest thing I had ever seen. If I so much as walked into the room, he would strike repeatedly, bashing his head against the wall of his viv, just trying to attack me!

Now I know he was a bitty thing, not huge like Sabrina...but he was whippy and FAST!
With gloves and patience he is now the SWEETEST CALMEST lil' man ever!
He's not even my prettiest boy but he's become a huge favorite around here.
