Updates on Shazam (my black milk)!

I'm warming up my brumation room as I type this. I have brought it up to 56f and the black milks are already cruising the cage! No doubt in my mind they would eat! This is not a species I'd recommend feeding live as adults. I breeder-loaned mine out last year and (unbeknown to me) they were fed live rat hoppers. Opening their cages was really miserable for a month or so. The feeding response can be really "dumb" on these. They reminded me of a moray eel who smelled shrimp.

Which is cute while they are sweet little tri-colors....

To be honest, I don't think it has anything to do with eating problems. Solstice (my female, sister to Shazam) is incredibly happy to see food, but she won't eat if anyone is around her. She is very skittish. I have a feeling she did not get much human contact from the original breeder (among other things). Thats a story that I won't go into... lets just say I was less than pleased, and did everything I could to turn Solstice and Shazam around for the short time they were with me.

Eclipse on the other hand sounds much like Noir, and he is unrelated to Solstice and Shazam. He is an absolute dear when it comes to handling, but turns into a terror around food. No matter what, I can't get it to him fast enough. They both eat great though, and their temps are ideal. Solstice's issue is more of a confidence thing...

Shazam JUST shed, so here he is again!!!... weighing in at 55 grams (more than I thought he would).

Wow! He's getting big! :)
That's so funny that he shed today. Joakim shed this afternoon, too! LOL (My Corn also shed today.) We'll have to compare during their next shed cycle and see if they do it again. :)

Thanks, Suzy! I'll keep it in mind when he sheds again. I'm gonna feed him tonight so he'll weigh in at your 60 grams after he gobbles it up (only to lose 2-3 grams after pooping! LOL!).

LOL - That's true. I think Joakim may have lost a bit of weight after seeing what came out of him after shedding! :grin01: I'll have to double check that one.
Do you use iHerp or anything for your snakes? That's what I use to keep track of all of the info on my snakes - it makes my life so much easier! :)

Suzy - I've been there and registered... but then forgot all about it. I'll go by and give it another shot. LOL.

Thanks for the tip!

Alan - I think that, as Tricksterpup said, Andean Milks keep the colors AND get large. I haven't seen any around, though. THAT would, indeed, be kewl!

He's looking good Fred! Those tips are creeping in nicely. He has an X almost exactly like Eclipse. I love that 1st pic with your little girl in the background. Is that a future herper in the making? :D You'll have to bring her to the April show. My boys will get her hooked on herps in a heartbeat! :grin01:

I was also amazed when I put mine on the scale yesterday. Eclipse is up to 83g! He was 42g when I bought him in September. They sure don't look like they could weigh that much, but then again they are extremely heavy bodied lol (but shh... don't tell them that). My 2 have both gained about 10 grams since they were switched to rat pinks about 2 feedings ago.... looks like those rats are really pumping them up! I'll have to back off just to make sure they don't get too fat.

Keep up with the pics Fred! :D

Hope you enjoyed them!!!

Suzy, you are now allowed to go to bed... Provided your laundry is done. I don't think I've ever posted so many so fast before!!! LOL.

Fred, I really think I need to pick one of these up. I can't wait for the next installment!!!

Thanks for the update, Fred! He's gorgeous! He's slowly starting his tipping. I noticed it on the yellow head band on Joakim, and I can see Shazam is doing the same thing now. He is beautiful, though! Do you have any plans for getting him a girlfriend eventually? (You know you do, just admit it! ;))
Thanks again for the pictures! I'm off to bed now! :)

Thanks, Eddie! I hope you DO get one!! It'll be my "good influence" on you. It'll also give you another subject for the "Kids & Snakes" thread. LOL.

You're welcome, Suzy. TBH, every time I see your name on CS.com, I think, "I need to get more photos of Shazam up!". LOL.
I MAY get him a girlfriend one day... Just not anytime in my foreseeable future! LOL. I think it would be great and it would help bring more of these guys to the forefront of snake collecting. BUT, I've still got a lot to learn... and LOTS of space to acquire before that happens. LOL. G'night!

I so want a black milk. Shazaam is beautiful. I guess I expected a bit more color change by now but am sure we'll see it soon enough.
Thanks for keeping us updated with him.

Oh, he's quite the slow grower. But I'm sure he'll get there. When he goes blue, you should see how dark her is. I'll try to get photos of it when he does.

Oh Fred! He is so pretty! Tell me about him. Is handling him even nearly as nerve-wracking as handling Kokoro?
