Went for a nice, long walk in the desert this afternoon. It was a gorgeous day in the mid-70's, with little sideblotch lizards running around everywhere...

In case you guys can't tell...I really, REALLY love having this new camera...

Thanks for Looking!!

Wow great shots! What kind of camera is it?

It's an Olympus E-520, and I use Zuiko ED lenses. These pics were taken with the 40-150mm zoom. I always post exposure data at my blog in my signature, if you're interested...

Your camera seems to capture the colors and lighting of the desert perfectly :)
One question did you capture the Uta up close or was that taken with zoom?

Both. 150mm is not a huge zoom, so I had to creep up on them, and even still had to crop the pictures in processing to get the lizards up close enough. But it works. You just gotta creep reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaal slowly... I usually crawl on my knees or belly to get close enough to them.

I bloody hate the way these so called 'Street artists' leave graffiti everywhere...
The other shots were cool Chris......

That's so funny...

I was out this afternoon with an older guy and we got to talkin' about the Sierra Club. Can I just tell you that I despise the Sierra Club and their totally hands-off, do not touch approach to nature? Can I tell you how much it irritates me that they try as hard as they can to keep people OUT of the wilderness, to preserve "history", instead of loving and interacting with nature and protecting habitat?

I HATE the Sierra Club...

Sorry...rant over...

Cool, you have a good camera. Oneday I'll get a better one, then youll have to teach me how to use it ;) I think you should interact with nature as well, how else do you teach your children to respect it. Now people going into nature and destroying it, that I cant stand.. I thought Sierra club was all into hiking and stuff, but I guess I was wrong about them. Not like I really looked into them too much.

Great pics of the "desert waking up". While they beautiful pics of the desert's natural beauty, I hate that it portends HOT WEATHER... soon.

Sweet shots! I like the first little frog. He looks so funny just chillin' there. :D

Thanks, everyone!

Robbie...nope...that little frog was eyeballin' me for all he was worth. If I would have moved an inch he woulda been outta there. The marsh he was in was loaded with bullfrogs. Every step I took, another jumped in and disappeared. I only caught 2 of them before they jumped in, and this was the best picture...

nice shots!

what are the petroglyphs? they look kinda cool...

I have no idea what they mean, but they are all over the outlying desert lands. The area I live in was home to the Paiute/Shoshone tribes for many, many years. There are archaelogical digs all over...Everything from perfectly formed arrowheads to camp sites, complete with foundation and fire pits. These petroglyphse are scattered over a wide area of what is evidently a large familial gathering area. A nomadic town, so to speak...

Trickster-
I haven't gotten my fishing license yet this year. Can't legally touch 'em yet. Only thing I can play with is rattlesnakes, 'cause you don't need a license...and they're all still sleeping...

Nice pics, Chris. Beautiful terrain. Why is it we/I love it some much where it is most different than where I am?

It's only human nature to most strongly desire that which is most difficult to achieve. Same holds true in terms of beauty. I came out here from NY, and this is maybe why I find so much pleasure in the rugged beauty of this area. It's sad how many kids have grown up out here, and couldn't even tell you where these petroglyphs are, and there are roads, walkways and fences surrounding them. There's even little information booths about them. But the kids that grew up here just use the area as a party-pit, most of the time. People just don't appreciate the beauty that they see every day. You know what they say..."Absence makes the heart grow fonder" and "Familiarity breeds contempt". Both sayings are incredibly true...
