What's your favorite breed of dog?

I like sighthounds...Greyhounds, Salukis, Afghans, Borzoi, Whippets, etc..etc..etc..

I also like Chinese Cresteds that sit on squirrels

Big dogs are my favorite--especially Mastiffs and Great Danes. Or, really, any dog with a stocky figure and a broad muzzle... And pug noses. I love stubby little pug noses! Lol.

#1, though, is and always will be the Boxer. Especially not-too-flashy fawns with nice, dark muzzles and broad chests. Here's my brindle girl, Sammy. She's pushing 10 and a half now, and still going strong. (Romeo, our Boston mutt, keeps her young... lol!)

BEAGLES!

otter hounds.
A friend of mine had a Beagle called Ben...... Smart dogs.... Very trainable,,
And I did hear that Otter hounds are going into decline and quite difficult to source... So I'd get in quick before they are all gone...
ATM in the UK the dog laws are being over hauled... What is exactly going to happen is unsure..... If they don't clamp down on dogs of a certain size, and clamp down on the owners who's IQ hasn't reached a certain size.....
I'd like one of these...
Boerboel

Actually, due to the beagles famous selective hearing, they are widely known as not the easiest dog to train. They are stubborn little willful gits. But with huge fluffy ears, I don't care :)

I haven't seen an otterhound in the flesh, ever. I'd love to though :) I doubt it's a breed I would ever be able to own. I'd settle for the beagle, blood and basset. And then theres my bear. All the beees!

My two favorites are:
My big boy Apollo, the Great Dane (stands 36.5 inches at the shoulder):

And Irish Wolfhounds:

What can I say, I like big dogs?

When I get my big ol ranch that I'm working towards I'm gonna breed these two...not together mind you; too many health problems there. One day though. :D

I meant train to do their job.... Hunting.. LOL
They are spot on in the field.... Proper busy little guys who will track, mark, come and get you and show you where to look....... Most of it comes natural to them....

Standard poodles. We have 3 of the old working type. Two males 80+ lbs. and a female 60 lbs. Very lovable, intelligent but also protective dogs. Only drawback is needing clipped every 8 weeks. We have them in a kennel clip.

Working type poodles are good dogs, I agree. Smart as anything but generally interested in pleasing their humans.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks...Love my girls...and of course, whatever rescue I'm fostering at the time. Right now it's a pit mix and a beagle mix.

I'm not big into dogs, but I have ALWAYS wanted a Saint Bernard named Scruffy.

I also really like basset hounds. They're so cute with their mopey faces.

Awwww! So cute. I love mutts, too.

My family and I have had a ton of different kinds of dogs... A lab, husky, golden, german shepard huskie mix, and st bernard.. I've liked them all.

That being said, by far my favorite is German Short Haired Pointers.. We have two, and I love them. They are like the perfect size.. Big enough to wrestle around with, but small enough to lay on your lap on the couch without pushing you off.. Lol. The two we got are rescues, while I like them.. Itd be really nice to have them trained the right way though..

But my dream setup would be a GSP, Versla, and a Weimer (something).. They are all similar in size and build.. And then I'd be able to tell which breed I liked a little bit better

Did you ever see Turner and Hooch, where he tells him the rules? That's me and Bella. "This is not your room! No barking, slobbering, chewing, crotch sniffing, begging, jumping, pawing, licking..." So she's pretty much perfect.

My favorite breed is the Ibizan hound. I fell in love with them when I saw my first one when I went to the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 2001. Before that I thought I loved Pharoah hounds, but then I met an Ibizan. I won't have one for quite a long while though, until we have a place with running space and fences.

My favorite has to be the Bouvier des. It was introduced to me by an ex-friend and I've fallen in love with the breed.

This picture is borrowed from: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images10/Bouvier des Flandresbajor in spring 2 2004 copy.jpg

I'm starting to sound like csi/ghostwispera who invents things etc etc you all abused me.....
But...
I met one of these when I lived in Holland... It was the local cafe dog and it was called 'Tarzan'. Like a rolled up rug, with teeth.....

Dale,
Let's say (hypothetically speaking of course) that you decide to go hunt for some truffles. Now, we all know that pigs are the best truffle hunters, would this canine friend of yours get upset with the pig on such an assignment, or would he let it go simply because truffle hunting simply requires a pig?

Also, after several pms I have been informed that the proper name for "hot dogs" is actually "weiners", I apologize for the confusion that might have ensued after my previous post in this thread.

I wouldn't take him, because the past 4 centuries of breeding Labs have rendered them hunters of animals, not fungi. :p

And the grammar/spelling nazi in me requires that I tell you that it's "wieners", not "weiners". :D
